How strong is the composite bed?

I'm sure this has been asked before, but a quick search did not find answer.

How strong is the bed to mount things to? I'm not thinking about massive weights, but securing things like on a steel-bed truck. (A Hi-Lift, for instance.)

I assume it is, just want to verify.

I also assume a backing plate is good to use, just like on a steel-bed.

 

It is plenty strong, when in doubt about what to mount/whether or not to mount... please see the following:

 

I wouldn't be drilling holes in it to mount stuff unless you reinforce the composite from the back side with steel.

 

I think they are strong enough for tools and jacks but I wouldn't mount a spare tire. Search site for spare tire issues.

 

I mounted my extinguisher with bolts with huge washers on the outside.

 

I used backing plates or fender washers - just like when I mounted tiedowns by drilling holes in my previous truck's steel bed.

That is pretty much what I thought.

On my previous steel bed, I always used either a fender washer or backing plate. I will do the same with this truck.

I will be building a sleeping platform, and plan to anchor it to the bed in 4 or 6 places. It sounds like as long as I use a backing plate, I will be OK.

Problem with RTT's is you have to pack up shop whenever you want to move.

With a platform bed, you can leave it any ole way and move. Plus center of gravity issues.
