The GY6.35 does not *need* to be trimmed, but if you snip off about 1-2mm from the posts, the bulb sits deeper into the socket and does not wiggle at all- almost fits like the OEM bulb as far as "snapping" in. I did it to the one I test fit and it was nice and snug. I ended up returning the bulbs though as they were not as bright as what I already had installed.

The Philips brand at Home Depot was $2 less than the purple-packaged ones from Fein/Feit/Whatever... but now in looking at the pkg, they are rated at 460 lumens and the purple pkg ones are rated at 700.

I run the Sylvania Silverstar reverse bulbs in my truck- very happy with them. I'm not sure if the purple pkg bulbs would be brighter or not, but the 460 lumen bulbs were not and were a little yellow compared to my Sylvanias.

I like threads with lots of pictures so here are some more. First ones are shots with LEDs I had put in so I don't have a stock comparison. Bottom pictures are with the 35W halogens from Lowes shows on the previous page of this thread. I've only used them to get the pictures but think they will make a big difference

All I did to fit mine was snip 1-2 mm off the posts, take a small pick and bend the metal contacts so they were close together in the socket providing more tension and popped them in. VERY simple. The snipping part is not required, but I did it and the bulb then sat in a little further into the socket and felt more secure- again, NOT necessary.

The glass is too wide for the socket.

Should have gone with 6 width
    Not 6.35 width

AR15- that's very odd. Like I said, I snipped the ends, popped them in and they went in just a little with no force whatsoever.

Even if you don't snip them they should just sit in there perfectly fine.

I don't understand the issue. Remove old bulb, crimp in the bulb holder clips, push in new bulb pins, done.

Edit: bulb doesn't push all the way in like stock bulb. Just in far enough to seat pins.

I do not appreciate you making me look like an imbecile. Even if that isn't your intention. Thats unfortunately how i took it.

Obviously they will not fit when the glass is wider than the socket.

You don't need any help. I've did this install in 5 minutes tops as many others on this thread have done.

I tried to offer help, that is all. Try going to the dealer for install, I bet it would book an hour labor.

I've backed up for 3/4 mile took at least 5 minutes, due to not being able to continue or turn around.

Stock one is in my hand, new one THAT WILL NOT FIT is in the foreground

You can CLEARLY see that the width of the new bulb is so much more that it absolutely will not fit in the socket. So basically, i bought the wrong size base.

    A better image.

New bulb that does not fit, on the LEFT

Old factory bulb, on the RIGHT

You can clearly see how much bigger the base is on the new bulb, thus it will not fit.

I haven't removed my old bulb, so I'm not sure what they are supposed to look like, but why no prongs on the old bulb like on the new?

Yeah, they don't go all the way in like stock. You have to use a small screw driver or something to push the metal contacts out to make a tighter fit in the socket. Then the new ones go in to just past where the glass starts. just barely when the glass starts though.

It's not going to sit all the way down like OEM bulbs do, but again, if you just plug it in it should stay but you'll see that you can snip the tips off and it seats in a little better. Don't mash it in there- it's not going to fit perfectly.

And, as for posts on new, not on the old ones, part of it is that these are halogens and they are designed to fit into desk lamps, sconces and chandeliers and are being adapted to fit into automotive applications.

you are NOT sticking the glass down in the socket like the stock bulbs. You are only sticking the pins in the socket. the glass should not and will not go past the top of the pins.

    Because it will not go.

Also, if i put just the metal in there, it falls out or will not light up at all.
