so i am picking up my new truck tomorrow morning, 01 4x4 extended cab TRD. the only downfall is that it needs new tires asap, I am living in colorado now and im not sure what tire would be best for snow covered roads (paved and dirt roads), but still allow good off road traction come spring/summer time where the terrain is rocks, dirt/clay, mine tailings(fine dirt), etc.

the truck is not lifted yet, but i am going to stick with 265/75/16 tires just to help with mileage and weight a bit.

I've ran Cooper ATP on my last 2 trucks and have no issues with them, but if there is something better i may give it a shot.

Winter Only tires - I am very impressed with Bridgestone Blizzaks
Year round tires - The Coopers work well for the money, also had good results with Michelin Mud and Snows

If I were in the market for new tires I'd look at the new version of the Cooper AT's, the AT/W.
    http://us.coopertire.com/Tires/Light-Truck/Discoverer-A-TW.aspx

I haven't read any 1st hand reviews yet but they look interesting. I have toyo open country AT2's and they are working well for this winter so far. This is my first winter with these so I can't say how well they'll work when they start to wear. I'm in new england and have driven these several times in pretty bad conditions and no issues. I generally put it into 4 wheel drive on the back roads if they haven't been plowed.

The other good thing about my toyo's is they work great in the rain as well, and are relatively quiet.

do they wear good? if i can get 40k miles out of the tires ill be happy, as i know the offroading i do likes to eat up tires haha.

now on a first gen truck, what is the minimum load range tire i should look at? i've ran E rated tires on my old 2011 double cab and the ride was fine

Take a look at the General Grabber AT2. They're snowflake rated and they've surprised me in the mud.

I have Michelin AT2s and love them. I won't buy Cooper again, I had a few bad experiences with them.

I have hankook dynapro AT tires and they have done great this winter. Snow and ice haven't been a problem at all (I live in idaho). Had em on for about 10k miles and don't look like they have worn much at all. Pretty great tire IMO

I've had my dynopros for 50K miles. I've driven in all types of weather conditions and roads and have had zero problems with them. They will probably need to be replaced in the next 10K miles.

I will probably pick up a set of the general grabbers next.

So far I've been impressed with my Cooper ST Maxx. I've only had them on about 10k miles, but they have been good in everything but packed ice.
