So i live in MN and take a yearly trip to WY/MT/CO to do some snowmobiling, its about 900 miles one way and heading across the Dakotas is brutal for towing cuz theres a nasty crosswind. My Brother's 05 F150 (300 HP) can barely do it, and he says he wont do it again after last year when his engine got hot and created an exhaust leak.

I pull a 14' aluminum triton enclosed trailer, like 2500lbs loaded but shes a tall bitch (7') and catches wind. I for sure wouldnt trust my 4.0 DCLB taco with the stock engine, i just dont think she could handle it.

My question is what if i got a supercharger? Ill have some power then, which is good, but im not sure if a supercharger is set up to tow long distances like this.....

    your fine with the weight.

Buddy has his SC'd taco tows his 21 foot luxury toy hauler thats probably right at the 6500lb limit once loaded without issue.... hes been known to do 75mph or so towing it up the 14 freeway (which gets pretty hilly) in 3rd gear (auto) just givin' her.

We got 5.2mpg last time he towed that fast. But the truck is plenty fine. Typically if he tows like a normal person (he honestly drives a lil fast for my tastes) he gets around 9.

That stated... if its windy, drive slow!

I tow across Alberta all the time. We have +60 mph chinook winds in the spring, winter, and fall from the west. If you are worried about the wind overworking your engine, consider towing at a lower speed. I find if I drop from 60 mph to 40 mph the whole truck feels better no matter what tow vehicle I use. Keep an eye on your ECT and you'll be fine. No supercharger needed, it's just going to make things hotter if you need it for power. Just my opinion.

Traded the 2015 TRD Pro 6spd Supercharged on a PowerWagon and could not be happier. My 2011 Tacoma with the TX Baja package (Added by me) is still treating me great. My 1985 Toyota never skips a beat.
I have towed lots of miles with all kinds of loads.

    Are you manual or auto?
I wouldn't stress at all unless you are auto without factory tow package. If your auto run fourth and cruise 55-60, if your manual run 5th.

If you weren't S/C you could run foot to the floor if you had too. But with the s/c just drive a little nicer. When all else fails go slower.

I pulled my smaller car hauler trailer (18 ft Tennessee style 1800-1900 lbs empty) with play truck and all gear thousands of miles with a 4cyl yota. It was never fast but if you have a little patience you won't have problems.

Shes an auto, and i pull much heavier than this with her (4000 lb boat) and the truck pulls really well. My concern is that little 6 banger workin her ass off for 14 hrs straight. Maybe ill consider taking it slow and maybe even gettin a hotel and breaking up the drive.

This is literally the only time i need a bigger truck, other than that the taco is perfect so its hard to justify upgrading to a diesel or even a tundra just for this....

Break it up into two days if you are worried and travel a bit slower. You'll be fine.

No it will be fine. Just mind the S/C and watch your temps.

As long as its in normal temps etc the engine doesn't know the difference between 2 hours with 10 breaks and 20 hours straight.

The bad stuff happens when you try to go too fast speed wise, time wise isn't an issue. Or if your working the dog shit out of the auto instead of towing in 4th at a reasonable speed :)

I am not S/C in this one and would never think twice about towing. Its slower but does great.

Then again I know slow all too well. I towed many of thousands of miles with a 4cyl Yota.. :)

The issue is going slower if you get tired. The human part of the machine needs the rest :)

The 6spd makes it so nice!

The auto does good too but seriously love my 6spd towing :)

if you're only doing trips like this once a year why not rent a full size to make the trip, if it shits out its not your problem.

Is he checking his transmission temps.... mine start to rocket to 220F when I do stuff like that on the same setup. That won't hurt anything but I'll be changing the transmission fluid soon because I've definitely shortened it's life.

Are you still under warranty OP?

I wouldn't stress either way but if you are under warranty then its Toyota's problem if it fails pulling snowmobiles well within its Rated towing capacity!

Not if he doesn't have a scangauge. or similar.

When I had my auto I never saw concerning rise in trans temp unless I was hammer down over the tow rating. And that was once in the summer.

But the 4runner with same trans got warm, not dangerously but warm towing any time.

Definitely a good plan to service if you do it often. Better safe then sorry.

No issues still just don't hammer on it, but trust it. It will do you better than you think!
