So I came across a used TRD exhaust for $200 that has 3k miles on it. I'm not sure if it's worth it, but I don't really even know what exhaust I want yet...

    -Is $200 a good deal?
    -How are the TRD exhaust?
-Should I just wait and save for a Magnaflow Offroad Pro Series Exhaust?

All I know is I'd like a quiet-ish exhaust with performance. I don't want to be super loud so everyone/cops looks at me, but would like to hear it when I floor it. My Dad just bought me a TRD intake for Christmas and now my engine is louder than my stock exhaust. Which kinda bugs me.

Any information will be appreciated. I've been try to research when I'm not busy, but if anyone can chime in with some opinions would be great.

I've had TRD Cold Air Intake (original version) and TRD CatBack exhaust since my 2008 was new.
They both work fine, are not too loud unless you are really into it - +3500 rpm - then the truck wails!
Cruising around, there is just a mild rumble.
At freeway speeds it is not a nuisance.
Be aware that the TRD Cold Air intake is not street-legal in CA - you have to work with the smogger at inspection time, or be ready to swap back to stock. When they look up the CAI on their computer, there are some that are CA-legal, and some not. If you can get the inspector to use the part #for a street-legal one, you are done.

Yeahhhhhhh I was just emailing the guy and found out it was a Stock TRD sport exhaust not the aftermarket one from the dealer... I was going to come here and tell everyone lol. Then I read your post.

I think I heard an FJ drive by me with a TRD exhaust I think not 100% sure, but it sounded good to me! Not to loud cruising on the freeway, but you can hear it being jumped on on the freeway onramp.

I'd really really like to hear those two in person before I made a decision... I'm not sure how to though unless I post up at a muffler shop all day lol.

I'm pretty sure it's the 2nd gen cool air intake. My dad said the parts guy at our Toyota dealer said it's smog legal here in California.
    It looks like this.

    Sheeet lol.
My dad bought it for me for Christmas present we were going to return it so I could get something else TRD or get money back and buy a URD intake or something, but they were going to charge 20% restock fee. So I kept it and installed it.

Are you set on a catback? Getting a drop in muffler welded in is cheaper, and if you don't like it, is easily replaced with something else. You could rip and replace the muffler 3-4 times and still be less then a catback.

    lol I saw it!

No not really. I was thinking about getting one of the Magnaflow Mufflers and welding it on I recently just bought my own welder soooo yeah :D lol.

The Magnaflow TOYOTA TRUCK TACOMA Stainless Cat-Back System PERFORMANCE EXHAUST uses 5" Round by 14" Length Muffler

I'm thinking of buying just this one 6" Round by 18" Length and welding it in.

Will the 6" round 18" Length will be quieter than the 5" Round by 14" Length?

    :confused::confused:

    Bigger should equate to quieter.

OP, like Lurkin said, just do a drop in. TRD Tacoma's have mandrel bent cat back exhaust from the factory so you won't be gaining anything with a cat back system. Without forced induction you really aren't going to need anything bigger than stock pipe as the engine won't utilize it.

Yeah I emailed magnaflow right after I posed. This is the reply.

    "Justin,

The 6” round 18” long will be much quieter than the 5” round 14” long due to the size increase. The internal packing is what suppresses the sound, so that 6” round is not only larger, but a bit longer as well.

Wow I didn't even look at my exhaust tubes I just assumed they were Non-Mandrel/Crush bent lol.
Yeah I'm just going to swap out the mufflers.
