so my girlfriend and i area headed to moab for a weekend get away next month before the jeep jamboree or whatever is going on the second half of march.

where are some good camping areas that i dont have to deal with people near by, have nice views (im a photographer, and the early morning shots are what im after this trip) and are free?

I've only been to Moab once before, and camped just south of town in the Valley Of the Gods which is my fall back.

If you had said sunset I would suggest the top of long canyon. Great views toward the La Sals. Free camping spots along the road before it switchbacks down the canyon and a designated rarely used no services camping area at the point. One of my favorites spots to watch sunset.

Long Canyon connects between the Potash rd and the Deadhorse point rd off 313. The canyon itself has a 4 mile dirt rd that is steep and rough in spots. Last fall heavy rains wash out all the culverts and the county is still working on repairing the road should be ready for spring. The less 4x4 access is driving up 313, turning left toward Deadhorse state park. Before you reach the park entrance bare left onto the long canyon dirt rd and follow to the end. Camp spots on both sides of the road before it drops into the canyon. Views look east toward the La Sals with behind the rocks fins in the foreground. Should be able to google it and see some images. Only warning I would give is if it's windy can be unpleasant.
