Hi all, so I got the relentless diy bumper, and I was hoping either, eric, or someone who has done one, or even anybody can give me a few pointers. I'm in the process of selecting a welder (basically just called around craigslist and yellow pages) so I'm definitely not doing it myself because I have no idea what I'm doing or have any equipment. I wanted to ask where these 3 pieces go?

I believe the third picture are tabs, but is there a recommended spot for them? I saw someone else's pictures of 2 tabs being welded to the fog light cylinder

1st pic goes on the outer ends of the bumper on the bottom.

2nd goes on either side of the top center piece where the two outer wings sit at an angle higher than the center.

3rd are your fog light mounts.

Let me know if you want pics of the pieces on the bumper and I'll take them for you.

Yeah cut it in the middle into two pieces. I'll get some pics for you tomorrow of all the places they go. If I forget to post them by noon shoot me a PM and remind me. If you have any questions about the bumper don't hessitate to ask. I'll be more than happy to help you out.

also, what did you do about the black fender liner that was originally on the truck? did you take it off, cut it, or attach it to your new bumper?

I took a pair of trauma shears off the ambulance and cut them off at the front of the truck out of the way so the upper part is still there but the part that shows behind the bumper is gone.

Also if you want to use your factory fog lights you don't need the fog light tabs in the third pic. I can show you how to reuse your factory fogs instead of buying the high dollar PIAA's.

I would be interested in this. I still have my factory fog lights in the garage.

I followed this thread but since I welded mine together I didn't put the fog light tabs on because I knew I was going to use my factory fogs. It made it easier because I didn't have to work the rubber piece around the tabs.

Sweet! Thank you. I am always cutting into, drilling, and welding on my DYI bumper so cutting the tabs off will be no problem. lol

yes sir, already had that bookmarked!

also i'm sure you guys spent a lot longer on yours, but how long do you think it should take a "professional" welder to get this bumper done? because this guy

    http://tampa.craigslist.org/pnl/sks/4916741023.html

quoted me $50 per hour, or $300 flat, I'm leaning toward the $300 flat, but seeing what you guys think

I started mine at 5 pm and worked on it all night and had it welded, primed, dried and on the truck by 8 am.

I welded mine up in about 3-4 hours. But it was my first welding project and my welds were not pretty, lol. I spent a few hours with a grinder and flap disks smoothing everything out.

sorry if these are dumb q's, but I was wondering

    1. how do you get the panels to be tackwelded at the correct angles? clamps? I'm sure welders know, but i've never seen it being done

    2. since it needs to be built on the truck, do i need to worry about sparks burning the paint or the headlights? or should i cover the truck with a cloth

    1. Plates can be held by hand and assembled one by one with a couple tacks holding them. After the parts are all together and you're happy with the alignment and fit, add additional tacks between the existing to hold the plates better. Then weld solid.
Yes, sparks can burn the paint/clear, or stick to headlights. Covering areas near the bumper with making tape is an easy way to protect the truck.

ok getting ready to get this thing welded at the end of the week, just want to make sure i've pieced everything together correctly, it's kind of hard to see because I didn't have a 2nd person taking pics for me, but is this correct?

thanks in advance, smaller triangle on top right?
