klx 140l

good bike? ive never owned one... im 5 foot 7

i went to the kawasaki store and it looked and sounded great but just like every other dealership the guys were paid on commission so they wuld d anything to sell it...

again the model is a kawasaki klx 140L

 

What type of trails do you have where you live? How much do you weigh? If you ride tighter, more technical trails, I'd say it'd be a decent bike. It should have decent power but nothing overwhelming. I'm similar in height and personally would look at something a little bigger. A 140 4-stroke would make a good starter bike but it won't be a powerhouse by any stretch of the imagination. If you want to ride more wide open, high speed trails, you might want something more powerful, like a 250 or 300. They used to make a 230, not sure if they still do but that was a great bike!

I bought one of these for my wife last year. They are good little bikes. They are very quiet and pretty light for a four stroke. It might be a tad small for someone your size but it would still make a great starter bike. They have no kick start so you might want to invest in a trickle charger to keep the battery charged up.

 

I've been racing motocross for about 12 years so I'll give you my input. It depends on what kind of riding you're into. if you wanna start racing and shit, then thats not the bike for you. you'd be better off getting a 250f. If you just wanna ride around, and have fun, then this will be a great bike. Its just a trail bike; not a shitload of power that's gonna throw you off or get you hurt. I'm an expert rider and I've ridden a 140L and they are a BLAST! No matter what skill level you are, this bike is a shit load of fun. Since it's not a racing bike, It doesn't require near as much maintenance as say a 250f would. change the oil about once a year, run regular gas in it and you're solid. Won't ever need to rebuild it. Unless you're planning on racing, I guarantee you'll be happy with this bike. But if you have friends that are competitive and stuff, maybe go with a 250f, but you NEED to do a lot of maintenance on them. (especially if it's used). I've actually got a klx110 and sometimes I have more fun on that than I do on my 450. Hope this helps, and good luck!

eh, well it depends on how hard you ride it. just riding around having fun, I'd say about every 5-6 hours of run time.
