I didn't know where to post this at so I figured that ATV's would be ok. Anyway, when I was a kid I had two go karts one that was centripetal clutch and the other is torque converter. Anyways my dad had an old generac 4000XL generator that didnt generate anymore so we we have taken the generator apart down to the engine and the rotor of the generator but the rotor now wont come off. I am trying to figure out how to get it off. If anyone has any ideas or experience with it I could use some help. If you guys want me to post pics of our progress I can do that too. This is a first for us. We are upgrading from a 5 HP engine to a 7.8 HP engine. Hopefully we can get it all working properly.

Down to the Rotor and cant get the rotor off to get to the shaft. I need the shaft to put the clutch on it, then we can make a gas tank to put on it and be off.

definitely so far, the only snags so far is getting that rotor off and then will fixing a good fuel tank on the motor. we thought about fastening the frame of the generator with that huge gas tank on top of the frame of the go kart and just go with that its possible but probable needs to be welded to work the best.

This here. The rotor here is the part of the generator that spins and on the crank shaft and creates electricity when the other parts of the generator are on. There is some how to get it off. I have done an internet search and it has come back negative. Some people have stuck a 5/16 rod down there and struck it with a hammer and said that the rotor just falls off. But there is a fine threaded hole in there (the shaft) that I will need for the Clutch to attach to. That's my problem

after I get the rotor off I have to make sure that the shaft is the right size for the clutch to fit.

get closer pictures of the inside of the housing and of the shaft. seems like the rotor might be rusted in place on the shaft, try soaking it with some wd-40 or pb blaster see if that helps. It hard to say whats holding it on from the pictures u provided.

Other than that it looks like a honda clone OHV their is plenty of after market parts for those engines. I put one on my manco dingo and it sure as hell has more pull low to mid range than my old 5 hp briggs.

Ok. I thought maybe a wheel puller might work but I would need a long wheel puller with a fine threaded 5/16 rod in it to do it. Its so long I will try to get that in the morning for you guys. That silvery gray part was the cover to the rotor we unbolted that already so that now freely spins (it didnt before) I dont know if it is rusted in there or not. i have not seen any signs of rust on the inside of the generator parts yet but there very well could be.

i just did the same thing at work, one of our honda generators stopped generating electricity. replaced bushings etc.....and still did not work so i decided to take off the stater etc.. and save the motor for a replacement motor anyways take a rubber mallet or hammer and start whacking away at that housing, (your not going to need it anymore) your not going to break anything trust me. ....once that is removed you will see some allen heads (4 of them) remove them and the housing will come right off. the shaft probably does not have any set screw's or anything attached. it will be smooth so your going to have to modify that once you get apart.

what your trying to do should take you all of 10min. your right there dude.....
