looking at dirtbikes

alright so I am looking at either a 450 or 250 four stroke, ktm or yamaha mostly,
I am looking at a wr450 2006 or a gforce 450 2007,
never had a dirtbike before, but had a 450r honda with cam.

I'd start with a 250; still plenty of power you won't outgrow. The 450s are torque monsters and could be a handful for a noob.
CRF250x or WR250 IMHO

^If you have never had a dirt bike I would stay away from a 450. The 250 4 strokes are pretty nice and still easy to control

By the way WTF is a gforce 450? Stick with the big companies (Yamaha, Honda, KTM, Suzuki, Kawasaki)

EDIT: Gforce 450 is a road bike. Are you looking for a dirt bike or road bike?

i had a 250 4 stroke, grew out of it in 4 months. but i have also rode quads for 13 years before this dirtbike. so i had knowledge

the 450 is a MONSTER. i recommend that to most people, but since your a noob go with the 250 first then upgrade when you feel necessary.

That's was my advice too, but his user name is Tim Allan. He wants mooooore power!!!
(of course he's never heard home improvement jokes before and he's never pointed out that the last name is not spelled the same )

Ive been riding since i was 3. I went from a CR80R to a YZ450F. no big problems goin up that big but couldnt touch the ground. A 250f is a nice starter bike but you will want more power depending on how often you ride. The wr450 is about equal in power as the yz450 is. depends on where your gonna be riding more at too. Desert and trails get the wr and a track get the yz

well I don't really want to be jumping a whole lot thats why I am looking at more trail oriented bikes, the gforce is a ktm its a 450 xc

I have heard alot of bad things about the crf250x and r's I don't think the 450's power would be too much to handle, just the fact about it being on a dirtbike

x1000000 on just get a 250 for you’r first bike ever! bikes and quads handle HOLE ALLOT different!! i have not been on a 450 dirt bike. but i have been on a 450 quad and a 250 bike. power they are kinda close. (bike weighs about half what a quad does) so bike does not need as big of motor to go just about as fast as a quad.

i have not heard anything bad about the crf250Rs i have a crf150R that think out runs are yamaha rhino 700FI. so it will do 48-50MPH EASY! i have looked stuff up about crf250Rs and dont hear anything bad about them. and the R is more of the race bikes. and F is more trail.

early CRF's (pre 2007) are known for going through the OEM titanium valves very fast. Swap in some stainless ones and problem solved. They are great bikes otherwise.

still, I say learn on a 2 stroke but thats just me.

Go big!! 450 is where it's at!! The new fuel injected 450's really give you the ability to tune them to your liking. All the programmers that are available for the new 450's allow you to really mellow out the delivery without chopping it's balls off. This makes 450's more manageable than they used to be.

I would either go with the honda CR250R or the Honda CRF450R, both good bikes!

Honestly it is just a preference, if I was you I would get the ktm 350 four stroke, rode one of those last week and it was crazy. It really depends on what you want to do with it, are you racing outdoor tracks, indoor, or just riding around in the woods with the bros? I will put it to you this way. A 250 sometimes isnt enough to get you over that bis ass jump and a 450 is almost to much power, hope your not confused?

check out my build and my bike
