Ive got a Yamaha big bear 350, and it has a brand new battery in it, but after about 2 hours or riding and i shut it off, it wont crank back up cause the battery is dead. If it sat in my basement for a month and i tried cranking it, it would crank right up! It is only when i ride it, that it drains the battery. I can roll it down a hill and pop it into first and itll crank up and run until i shut it off again. Im sure the pull start would work too, it just doesnt work cause its missing a spring so i cant say:confused:. Im kind of in a bit of of predicament..... Can any of you guys help??? it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

If the battery has been sitting with out being recharged for several months, it has sulfated and is probably not taking a charge. If it were my battery, I would load test the battery and the charging system.

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
If this only happens when riding, you have a short somewhere. It's possible that you may have an exposed wire in the harness "leaking" to the frame or to another wire.

yeah somewhere has to be a fault in the wiring, but that was quite obvious unfortunately wiring is a bitch to track down the problem

Check it while running to see what kind of voltage you're getting at the battery. Not sure what a magneto should put out but??

Its been doing this since the first time I installed the brand new battery. Now iver just learned to not shut it off while riding and just put it on the charge when i get home. Except for the times when it gets bogged down of something while riding and shuts off........then i rely on a buddy to push me while I pop it into first. lol but thanks guys, i guess ill put a voltage meter to the terminals of the battery while its running and see what it reads. I hope its not the generator cause i looked at if i had to replace it and those can be preeetttyyyyyyyy pricey.......

It could be a bad battery or you have a bad stator...

Well i stuck a voltage meter to it and with the engine off it read around 13.5, ad when I cranked the engine and revved it up a little, it read around 14-14.1. Does thatean the stator is still good?

Yeah. I'm not very familiar with these types of charging systems but 14 volts sounds pretty normal for a 12v charging system.

well i think i found the problem, up front there were 2 wires that had disconnected from some plug, i dont even know what you would use the plug for anyways because it was attached to the brush guard and when you took the cap off there were 2 prongs in it. But anyways, the wires would have power when you turned the key on (hint why it was dying while riding) and was bumping up against the frame. Thanks for you guys's help!
