Getting a new quad

2013 Honda 400X, ordered it on Wednesday and it should be here next week sometime. The wait is killing me! I currently have a 2002 400EX, the pre reverse model and having reverse is what I look forward to the most haha. Gonna miss my tried and true 02 though, it's taken me everywhere but is showing signs of a failing engine. Time for it to be retired and replaced. Here is a picture of the quad I am getting.

Nice! Do they offer FI yet? Or is it the same as 1999's with new plastic and reverse?

 

Come on, a 400? Should have stepped up to a 450 or a Raptor 700. I rode a KFX400 for three years. It was a great quad but I was quickly able to ride it to it's limits. As soon as I started seeing women riding 400's on the trails I knew it was time to step up to the big boy quads. I bought a 08 Raptor 700. Been on that for 2 years and now I'm wanting more. you can never have enough power. 400 are great for beginners and intermediates but if you've been riding a while they can be lacking.

 

Why not a 450?

 

After I negotiated the trade on my old one and put 1k down, I now own about 3k on it. The MSRP was like $6680.

Basically, yes, that is a great mill though. I loved it on my 02, can't kill them.

Just never been a fan of the 450s, when I get a faster quad in the future it will be a 2 stroker. Besides, I love the trouble-free maintenance of the 400s, you just change oil and put gas in em. But, I do want something faster, and plan to put a pipe and aftermarket carb on this one to wake it up a little. And of course get my 2 stroke soon, probably a

Yeah no kidding. My friend has an 01 400EX that he has beat the living hell out of, it just will not quit. If Honda knew what he had put that thing through, they would want to use it for advertising I am sure of it.

Here is a vid of it in action. Love playing in the snow but am ready for summer. All the damn trails are snowed in, only passable on a sled right now.

 

Nice 4 wheeler man. I've got a 400EX and a 450R. Two different types of 4 wheelers. I've regeared the 450R for some woods riding but the 400 is still the best in tight spots.

 

Nice quad, i don't have any experience with the honda 400 but i ride a suzuki z400 and it's a blast, but in 2 years or so i'll be stepping up to the can am renegade 800 or 1,000.

 

Z400 are nice man. Riding here is a little different than what I'm used to...most guys like to do the mud thing and where I'm from it was all sport riding. I'm just not that into seeing how deep I can put it in the water or mud.

 

I'm happy with mine, doing 60 across the desert was fun, but i won't be doing that after we move.

Yeah, it'll be a big change when we move back there, I'm not a fan of mud riding, i like it wet (easier to drift, and no dust), but mud is a big no-no.

But i do want to keep my z400 for the easier/faster trails where i won't need 4WD.

 

I don't mind the mud now and then. But where I live it's kinda hard to avoid in the spring and fall of the year.

This is a shot of my old 02 on a muddy mountain ride last October, me and my buddy had a blast. Good thing I thought ahead and brought an extra change of clothes because I was covered in mud head to toe. Didn't want that all over the seat of my Taco! The fenders on sport quads are definitely for looks, they don't keep mud off you at all. My fiancé has a Yamaha Grizzly 660 and she never gets any mud on her while riding these types of trails. Only way you can get muddy on that thing is hit the puddles real fast.
I like to ride in the rain sometimes too, it can really be the great equalizer for any rider.

 

Here is another shot of mine and my buddy's quad from that same ride. At the time, we had the exact same machines, his was a 2000 and mine was a 2002. I miss my old quad sometimes, but I sure do love having reverse on the 2013.

 

Here's my 2006 Kawasaki KFX400 ( same as Suzuki Z400 ) before I upgraded to my Raptor 700.

 

How was that quad? I never actually seen one or a Z before. Where I live though, the utility machines dominate the market. You rarely see sport machines out, even a 400EX is a rarity. Hell, I've seen more 300EX's than 400's.

Ive seen plenty of honda 400ex in TN and quite a few in WA?

Lots more honda utility in TN tho..
