Rancher owners please read.

My gf's dad has a early 80's model honda fourwheeler on its last leg. Her mom wants to surprise him with a new honda 4wheeler 4x4 before deer season. All he's ever talked about wanting is a brand new(NOT USED) Honda rancher 420 4x4... black, dark green, or camo. How much have dealers in your area asked for this model after tax? the best quote i have got (for a 2009) is 4,800

I am a technician at a honda dealership (www.decorahsvikinghonda.com)

...anyways...we have them for around $5500. Very good fourwheelers, however some are having fuel pump issues and I would definetly get the power steering.

Ca nyou be more specific in the type of Rancher?

4x4 ES, Manual, Automatic
then you can get IRS or Power Steering and drive the price way up!!

If I were to buy a rancher, I would get the 420 however I would not get the honda ESP shit. It is just that shit they have a tendancy to seize up on you sticking you in whatever gear you were in. Manual is the only way to go. As for solid axel vs. IRS I didn't even know IRS was avalible for the rancher's. But if he dosn't plan on hard trail riding or mudding I would go with the soild axle as it is a simpler more trouble free design.

I have the manual shift 420fm for about three years and it has been trouble free. Great little machine. I paid in the low fives for it and wouldn't trade it for anything

I have a rancher 420 4x4 and I love it. I would go with the more simple model with foot shift, straight axle, and manual steering though. An atv is suppose to be simple and low maintenance. The ranchers are nice because they are tough and still smaller sized body wise. Some friends of mine have polaris and arctic cats, they are just huge and bulky, they don't turn worth a crap and they are very heavy. If your older the esp might suit you better though because its at your hands and you get the full floorboards.
