I put my '08 Kawasaki BruteForce 750 4x4i in my DC SB...
I use (2) ammo cans between the front tires and the front of the bed so that it won't contact the rear window... |

If anyone is having concern with hauling an ATV in their short bed, check out this product I found at Cabela's. It's a pretty good idea, and it has worked for me so far.

I have an 07 Tacoma Double Cab Short Bed..
I have an 04 Yamaha YFZ450 and the atv fits perfectly on my truck bed. The front tired fit snug between the wheel wells and the middle of the back tires sit right where the end of the bed is, so the back tires go about 5-6 inches past the end of the bed. |

Yes the stock dirt tires will fit just perfect, i'll take pictures this Friday when i pick up my quad from the shop. Keep in mind that i have the 2004 yfz450 and i think the newer models have a wider stance/ longer a-arms. If my front dirt tires fit snug between the wheel wells than i imagine a quad with aftermarket a-arms, newer model or different rims/tires probably won't fit in between the wheel wells of the Tacoma. You could always put the front tires of your quad on top of the wheel wells (That gives you more space under the quad to fit gear, sleeping bags, tents, etc...) I'll usually do it this way so when i go camping i can load all my stuff underneath. Works great. I'll try and take some pix of my Quad on the back of my truck when i pick it up sometime this weekend.

I've thought about putting the tires up on the wheel well, but haven't actually attempted it yet, my concern is loading it with the short bed. I ride it up ramps into the bed and between the wheels wells..I'm wondering how to get it up into the bed and lifting it over the wheel wells since the rear end is still on the ramps when the front tires get to the front of the wheel wells? We have a 30ft toyhauler for all our gear, but we have too many toys to take them all in it so sometimes I have to put 1 in my truck or for short day trips. We will probably end up getting a flat bed trailer anyway and I'll tow that if needed while my bf tows the toyhauler. I'd just like to know if the YFZ would actually fit if needed or how to get the LTR over the wheel wells ![]() . I'd appreciate pics! Especially over the wheel wells, if possible. Thanks! |

I ride my LTR right up in the back. It kinda forces itself in there. But I've also got some scatches on the side of the bed from the rims.

FoxySandChick,
Check out 06WHITETRD's picture. That is how much the yfz450 will stick out the back. Quote:
The other option i can think of if you're trying this solo is if you're strong enough (i'm sure you are ), Ride your quad up the ramps till the front tires hit the wheel wells. Apply the Parking brake (If it works) i took mine off so this is what i do: Press the front brake lever and get off your quad (WHILE STILL holding the Front brake lever) go around the quad till you're in front of it (Between the front of your quad and the rear window of your Taco, Still holding the front brake) Now you can hold the front bumper with one hand and then let go of the brake lever and grab the bumper with both hands. Then lift the quad over the wheel wells and pull back (Towards the front of your truck). Once the tires hit the notches in the wheel wells, the quad won't roll back or anything. Then simply move it as forward as possible and strap it down. [MAKE SURE THAT YOUR QUAD BUMPER WON'T HIT THE REAR WINDOW OF YOUR TRUCK BEFORE THE TIRES HIT THE CAB] I'm sure you can add a few pieces of wood or something to make a sort of ramp up the wheel wells. That would probably be your best/easiest option. I've never tried it with a ramp so i'm not sure if this will work but at least you can get an idea from how i do it. I don't have ramps and my quad fits snug between the wheel wells but when i lift the quad up, push it forward and if the wheels go astray and hit the wheel wells, i have my friend straighten the wheels out so it goes between the wheel wells. All while i'm holding the rear quad up. Either way i'll take some pictures this weekend from different angles. |

I'll try the LTR and the YFZ this weekend. Wow...I'll have to measure it with the stock dirt tires on it. With the sand tires I think it was about 51" wide.I think my LTZ is about 46" wide and it just barely squeezes in. Toyota says between the wheel wells is about 42", but I think its actually 44", I've measured it once before. Here is my LTZ in my truck...old old pics though. ![]() ![]()

. I'll try loading them both with dirt tires this weekend just to test it, if it doesn't fit with the dirt tires then it sure wont fit with sand tires! I'll have my bf help me out and see what we come up with and I'll try and get some pics too. Thanks!!

yeah i have a 2007 honda 400ex and the width of the front tires is 42"...the rears are 46"....i measured between the wheel wells and it is about 42 1/2" at the bottom and 45" at the top of them...they are kinda slanted....so my front tires will barely squeeze in there...lol...i think a 450 sport quad might not fit without driving over the wheel wells...prolly the same with a 700 sport quad

I couldn't attempt to load any of them since I have the handlebars off of them and the ltr all torn apart still
. I was hoping to have them all back together this weekend, but that didn't happen.

Hey Kristin,
I never followed up with a picture - No camera other than phone. I'm glad you were able to fit the quad in there though. Quad & truck are lookin good! It's Desert season!!
