Ok so heres the deal. I have window vents on my truck so I always leave the windows down about an inch. The lovely Yahoo weather told me it was going to calm and clear today (which it was when I went to school) then about an hour into class the teacher looks outside to see why the door kept slamming. When he came back in he asked who needed to close their windows because it was raining. After running full sprint to my truck (canopy windows were open too and had stuff in the back), I jumped in and saw that the wind had blown what looked like every ounce of dust and debris from the parking lot into my truck. I was stoked that I am getting paid tomorrow, but then that happened now I am depressed because my truck is filthy inside and out and I dont have an airhose to blow it out with...... :(

Good looking vise by the way....

Yeah, I just had to complain a bit, I am better now. It gives me a good reason to do a full detail this weekend (between the time I am working on my '40).

Yea, you Arizonites definitely have issues with driving in the rain!!! Glad everyone is safe.

Finally got around to processing some of my photos from my recent road trip from Tucson through Oracle to the painted desert/petrified forest to Albequerque for a Tom Petty concert. This is just a few of them. Enjoy!

A couple star pictures in-between the Petrified Forest and ABQ. This was right before the police busted us for trespassing (on an abandoned lot) and having a loaded pistol on my hip. Glad they didn't show up 5 minutes earlier and see what we were doing. We were handcuffed until both of us and my pistol/permits checked out ok. Just picked a bad spot to stop and take pictures at night. Turns out the area was common for drug issues so someone called in a suspicious character. They let us go after a good laugh and everything checked out. This was my second run in with the law that day.

Here is my first run in with the law this day. We got to the Painted Desert/Petrified Forest national park at about 5:45. Park closes at 6 so the rangers say we can drive through and the gate at the other end will automatically open for us. Just don't stop and get out. The speed limit is 35-45 but since we couldn't stop and the park was empty I was doing about 15mph so we could take some pictures. Well after about half way through this park a ranger comes up behind us and after a while puts his lights on. Pull over and he asks what we are doing, I tell him driving through the park. He tells me I need to move along, I look at him and say thats what I was doing before you stopped me. He says I need to drive faster and exit the park. So just to piss him off I say ok and pull out and now do about 25mph so he pulls me over again. Now he is pissed and tells me I need to hurry. I just smile at him and say I am trying but you keep pulling me over. He asks if I want to be arrested so I ask him for what crime, he says says to hurry and exit the park or he will arrest me. I just laughed at the guy and said good luck with that one, can I leave now. He let me go and we drove about 30 the rest of the way out of the park. My girlfriend was laughing the whole time. If they guy hadn't been such a dick I probably would have said, sure no problem man and moved along smartly.

To be fair, the roads are a lot more sketch here than the PCNW since there's a nice layer of oil that pulls up when it rains

I know and agree. But you have to agree, one little sprinkle here and people freak the fuck out. I have never seen cars and semi's bail off the freeway so fast to get to the shoulder before in my life.

I think Tucson drivers are terrible for other reasons.

x2, I saw lots of motorcyles parked under the overpasses but I went up 10 miles of the US60 yesterday right when it rained the hardest and not a single person bailing for the shoulder in a car/truck or semi.

It's true when it rains here people really do drive like shit. It just doesn't rain here often enough for people to learn how to drive in the rain. I love it. I was doing some awesome doughnuts in this empty parking lot I found off the 202 yesterday. Found some mud over there. Had me a good ol time just spinning around in the rain.

Shit, last two major rain storms I was driving between Tucson and Phoenix right around Picacho peak and when it hit people were cutting across 3 lanes of traffic to get off the road onto the shoulder. Semi's included.

I was wondering if there was something I was missing! I get the oil on the roads plus a lot of people don't have all season, all weather tires, and just don't drive in the rain much. But I have never seen people panic like they do down here. Its nuts. Then again, every year you would think people in the PNW have never seen snow before because they all forget how to drive in it it seems like.

Thats probably why, that is also a high wind area. Truckers arent stupid. I have seen numerous multi (as in more than 20) car accidents on the news in that area due to high wind and blowing dust. Its the desert equivalent of a mountain overpass

Oh yea around Picacho they probably pulled off for the wind, it can get pretty insane through there. I'd rather a 180,000lb semi pull off if it's going to ram someone.

Also, I exclude the couple of t-storms where visibility dropped to below like 5' and people pulled off, I don't care where you're from that's going to happen.
