CHANDLER, Ariz. --A 36-year-old Chandler man was arrested Sunday in connection with the murder and decapitation of another man, according to Chandler police.

Crisantos Moroyoqui was taken into custody and booked on charges of second-degree murder and hindering prosecution, police said.

"We have somebody that has been stabbed and been decapitated," said Detective Frank Mendoza. "Do we encounter these types of cases often? No.

"But it doesn't change the focus of the investigation, the thoroughness, or the accuracy at which we will proceed to determine actually what happened," he said.

Officers were called to the 300 block of West Fairview about 5:30 a.m. Sunday, where they found a Hispanic man in his 30s stabbed and decapitated inside an apartment, police said. They said the victim's head was found near the body.

Police followed bloody shoe prints to a nearby apartment, where they said they found tennis with what appeared to be blood outside the apartment. When they contacted Moroyoqui, his clothing also appeared to have blood, they said.

Officers said Moroyoqui had been living near the victim and it appeared they knew each other.

The victim was not identified, pending notification of family.

Police said Moroyoqui refused to cooperate with police after his arrest.

And he's in the country illegally.
