I am planning on finding the road from cave creek to child's camp ground and staying there over night on the Verde river. there is a hot spring and old burnt down hotel and some water holes just up the road at fossil creek. There will be a water crossing or two, I know the Verde is 6" to 4' deep depending on the season. So keep that in mind. We will exit out strawberry on Sunday. Here is a link to the camp ground. I would like to meet at the 4 sons gas station on Cave Creek and Care Free HWY at 730 leaving at at. Bring a CB or FRS radio and a GPS if you have one. Please come prepared. Let me know if your in or have any questions. Here is the link. http://maps.google.com/maps?f=...6052&ie=UTF8&t=h&z=9

Seems like a nice scenic trail.
Have you done this trail before?

I have come in from Campverde and camped at both Childs and 7-springs. Childs is the best place i have found so far with all that it has to offer. I have seen people on the south side of the verde and wondered how they got there so i have looked on the maps and found the trail it looks about 50 miles off road. that means a full day saturday. but it will be worth it. Childs, the hot springs, and the water holes are great.

A little change of plan. Still planning on camping at Child's camp ground and going to the springs but have decided against doing all that dirt. Going in the normal way from camp verde off the 260. I will post up meeting spot later if any one is interested in a great weekend of camping and water holes with good people. Let me know if you have any questions.

just as an FYI there is a waterfall at fossil creek you can hike too, about 40ft tall!

its closer to strawberry though. i have camped at fossil creek and drove to camp verde on the dirt road before.

and OP there are some closures around fossil creek area, i would call and find out exactly where. (the forest service)

There are a lot of great water holes up there. That is one I have been looking for. Do you know where the trail head is? Have you seen the jacuzi near Child's? Look up verde hot springs. It's pretty cool.

Just a heads up we are only going for the day seeing as there are no campfires. I checked with the forest service and the roads are open. Hope to see you there! IM me if you are interested.
