Just pulled the driver rear axle shaft and the bearing isshot. The truck is a 2004 Tacoma and has the ABS ring on the axel shaft thatwill have to be pressed as well. Can anyone recommend a shop in the Phoenixarea I can bring the shaft in to have the bearing replaced—either with orwithout me bringing in the new parts?
    Thanks!

I called the Toyota dealer service department, and with me bringing the axle shaft in the door (i.e. off the truck), my out the door price, including parts, was $531.00

I went ahead and ordered the tools I needed to press it ($415.00) and OEM parts online ($65.00 + S&H) and still came out ahead. While I am sure I could get it done for a lot less than the dealership, the couple shops I checked did not have the right tools (the jig for the press), and ultimately, I figured the other side will need the bearing replaced shortly and I have a 2nd Tacoma that is a daily driver that will likely be needing the bearing replaced in the near future too, so I might as well have the tools needed to do it.

I found my receipt from the last time I had the bearings replace (in California). It was in 2009 and only 85,000 miles ago. The bearings were Napa bearings rather than Toyota, and the cost to do BOTH sides including parts & labor was $314.00.

And for anyone on here in the Phoenix area who stumbles across this thread because they are needing to replace the rear wheel bearing on their Tacoma, feel free to shoot me a PM as I now have the jig as well as the press to do the job. Actually the jig is advertised to work on early Toyota pickups 1975 - 1995, as well as 4 Runners 1984 - 2011, Tacoma 1995 - 2011, T-100's 1993 - 1998, Tundra 2000 - 2012 and Sequoia 2001 - 2008, FJ 2007 - 2012, Lexus GX 460 2010-2011, Lexus GX470 2003-2009 and Tacoma Pre-Runner 2005 -2011. This tool also works on most Nissan, Mitsubishi, and Isuzu models that have the backing plate that interferes with normal pressing.

Heh... I was going to say I'll have to hit you up as a joke, then I read the last post. Count on it!

By the way, I was checking out your website maybe 7-8 years ago(?) when I was first starting to look into Tacoma adventure travel online. You and the BajaTaco were early inspirations... although I never really did much to my own truck.
