TW Butcher Jones Cleanup Crew

What's going on?
As was brought to our attention by Lichen, Butcher Jones is becoming increasingly more trashed by people abusing our privileges to use our resources. A lot of the BLM land has been closed around AZ (and the country for that matter) for this very behavior. Butcher Jones is a great spot for getting some weekend action in by everyone, both the 4x4 and PreRunner crowd. I'd like to see if we can get some volunteers to help clean up some of the trash left behind by people and help prevent a closure of this resource. It would be nice to try and maybe make a regular routine out of it if things go well. If anyone has connections with other groups (jeeps, TTORA, ect) feel free to invite them as well, the more the better.

At the end I think it'd be nice to setup a BBQ down at one of the coves and kick back for a few hours. I have one I can bring but it's kind of a pain to take apart... if someone else has an easier one that's willing to volunteer the use of it that'd be great.

Initial meet up point: (drive to Butcher Jones as a group)
Wendy's on Shea BLVD (just off highway 87)

When? TBD (See poll). I won't be returning to AZ until after October 11th... so sometime after that The earlier we start the better, I'd like to toss out meeting at 9 at the meeting point. I opened up multiple voting on the poll to allow you to select all best dates to get a better feel.
AZtacomaworld calendar on Google Calendar (I just threw this together to help prevent overlapping events. Not sure if this even works )

Suggested items to bring:

• Gloves
• Trash bags
• Sunscreen
• Water (plenty of it)
• Backup food (powerbars, ect)
• Recovery gear if you have it. I'm sure some of us will have at least some of the basics (straps, jacks, ect)
• Any friends that might wanna help out
• CB Radio if available

Suggested Vehicle Requirements: (hope you guys don't mind me quoting from the other threads )

• 4x4 or 4x2 with e-locker
• 4x2 with LSD at the risk of obliterating your tires. It is not recommended, but it's up to you to make the decision should you want to run. Butcher Jones is as easy or as difficult as you wish to make it. See below:

Let this be a lesson to All, the 2WD Sport is not meant for the rocks or offroading in Stock Form. The section where this happened was not an extremely difficult part by any means, I have done most of that hill in 2WD on different occasions. We were lucky enough to realize that Matt was not going to make the trail early and I was able to back his truck all the way back to the Wash.

That being said, after seeing a similar situation twice now:

(Unless otherwise noted)
If you are a Sport Prerunner or Base Model Open Diff 2WD and plan to wheel with us at any event you MUST have at the bare minimum:

Non-stock tires
Tow strap
At least 1 functional spare and a means to properly change it

Even then you need to be prepared for some Damage to the Tires including Chunking or even all out loss of tread and destruction of the tire. If you are Lifted and have larger than stock tires you must have a Full Size Spare. Even then, you are responsible for your truck, any damage that might incur from said trip will be entirely your responsibility and up to you to fix, the meet organizers can not and will not be held responsible for your truck, you attend these events At Your Own Risk

I say this not because I wish to exclude anyone but for everyone's own safety. We were very lucky to get Matt off the trail when we did and he did not have to abandon his truck out in the desert. This warning will go at the bottom of all meet threads I organize, if anyone else chooses to use it as well you are more than welcome to.

Final Thoughts:
If there are any more suggestions on equipment, dates, ect... please throw them out! Also, if anyone has a Chandler home address... they allow free dumping for residents. There may be other ways for it I just happen to know that from living there before.

Also, might be worth mentioning what we plan on doing to BLM or AZG&F to see if we can either dump stuff at one of their locations or have a truck come out.
Might score some free land passes as well.

That's what the other is for... I figured I'd try to set up before the camping meet but we can do it after just as easily.

Also if mid week is easier for people... that's possible to. I'll be off fri-sun through about oct 24th, after that sun-tues.

you should keep in mind that the annual "4 Peaks pick up" is in Feb. Mid week never really works for me cuz of class but as many times as i have been out to BJ i feel I should give something back.

Maybe a late november early December date would work better? gives us plenty of time to make this huge!!

Yea, I'll add that to the list. The other bit is we can have multiple dates as well... I'm ok with going out a few times myself as I'm sure there will be plenty of work for more than one excursion out.

For me, anything works. I figured something in and around 9-6 if that long. Probably mroe like 10-4 or 5 so people can get home while it's still light out. Temps shouldn't be to bad around that time. Completely open to suggestions though.

Just going by the polls. I did vote that so that's 3 peeps that weekend. If you can get the 27th or 8th off i'm cool with it. Is everyone else ok with that?

If we do it sometime in December, it'd probably be the best cause I will for sure have new tires by then and I'll have school off so I'd just need to get work off. I know that's a long time a way, but I'm not sure when I'm getting new tires. Cause technically I can afford to get new tires in about 1-3 weeks. But I probably won't because I have payments soon to be made. My plan is to have new tires by the end of this month at he latest. I could probably get a day on the weekend off and do it in November, but it all just depends on the tires and what is going on. I'll keep you updated though.
