Garage Floor/Concrete Coatings

So some of you guy may know that I do coatings on the side for people. I am actually coating my floor this week. The Company Name is Hungry Students Coatings. Anyways we do epoxy and acid staining for people. We are small. Made up of me and either me younger brother or My young cousin and my dad helps sometimes (He’s trying to teach my brother and cousin how be hard workers and how to do things the right way the first time “Life Lessons”) We do not advertise at all and only work from word or mouth and referrals. We have 7 Garages and one 5,500 sqft shop under our belts for epoxy and then for acid staining we did the columns on a $1.3 million house that a Cardinals Player now lives in. The product that we use is made for industrial applications and would normally used for Shops and aircraft hangers. This is not the home depot stuff. That is more or less almost house paint mix with some epoxy. The main problem with those kits are that most people do not properly clean the garage (Because it doesn’t say how to) and then it peels after a while. If you prep the floor right then it may last a little longer. That cleaning junk it gives you is just TSP, and its not strong enough to clean it well.

Our Process:

If any grease spots the day before we will mix a paste from TSP and Xylene and place on spots

Next we come pressure wash the floor and then scrub it with water and TSP.

Then we rise again. Then we start to acid-etch the Concrete with Pool acid and water. We scrub again to make sure its etching the Concrete.

Next we neutralize the acid with a mix of ammonia and water. Once done then we rise again.

After we rise we squeegee the water out for the most part and then primer the floor with a water based epoxy primer. This will need to dry overnight.

Next Day we come back and lay down the top coat epoxy (Solvent-based) and add the flake if required. This will dry overnight also. If no flake this would be the last day. Epoxy would be a nice Glossy finish.

The next day we come back and scrap the floor to make sure that all of the flakes are flat and smooth. Once scraped we sweep up the floor to get extras off and then add a coat of solvent-based polyurethane to protect the flake and give it a nice glossy finish. Then we are done

Normally it takes 7 days before I tell people to drive on it. and 2 days before you should walk on it with shoes.

This is our pricing (Epoxy Coatings): Pricing will be good until April 1st Due to costs going up.
Solid Color– $1.25 per Square Foot
Granite- $2.50 per Square Foot

Also I will be giving a $100 off discount on a garage floor to the TW Members!!

* All Garages will be a minimum of 400 sqft when giving quotes Due to how product is purchased

PM me if you have any questions or interests. Also If you are going to use Homedepot stuff and want some tips feel free to ask

Looks good. I'm in Texas, otherwise I'd give you a shout. I've contemplated having this done or doing this myself for my garage. I think the hardest part would be cleaning out my garage / finding a place to store all my stuff for a few days.

haha If I was You get the discount also. But no not anytime soon

We actually have the Lowest price in town because we are so small. I know the owners of a couple other companies that do this and they charge $3.50 per sq ft for the granite look. and are all about $.50 more per sqft then all of our other prices.

Thanks man.

Yeah if you are going to do it yourself send me a pm before you do and I'll give you the mixtures for cleaning it the right way. Cleaning and primer normally is a 5 hour day of hard work lol

Yeah All of my stuff from the garage is in my trailer and all of the coating stuff is in the house

Dude, I might be down, lemme think about a few days. I was gunna do it myself but i'm kinda lazy right now hah... and to many other projects. I do warn though I have a ton of oil stains. Also while you have the acid wash out, how much would you charge to hit the front exterior for some oil spots to get it as well as it will come off? 2 car garage... gotta measure it out... Ironic I was literally thinking about this again tonight while sanding the windshield wipers on my z lmao...

Just let me know man. Also if you can snap a few pics of your oil spots and PM them to me. Because if the are really bad it might be cheaper for you just to get Xylene and TSP from Ace Hardware and put it on them and let it sit. But I could give you better idea after I see a picture.

Lol yea man it's really bad... changing the transmission out was a huge fail on trying to prevent spilling with cardboard... let alone my buddy forgot to put the oil filter on his cavalier before starting the engine and... yea... plus the leaks the z already had lol.

Sorry about the horrible pics and horribly cluttered/dirty garage. Still kinda in the process of cleaning stuff up from working on the car and still trying to figure out what to do with all my stuff in this tiny garage lol... Also I'd move the car but the carb is currently sitting in carb cleaner torn apart so... yea.

I might hit up ace and pick up the stuff you mentioned and give it a shot first... I presume it won't all come out but as long as it should be good enough to allow as good of adhesion as possible... that's all that matters right?

Also, it's all around the garage not just these pics...

Also, the pics you put up look great, awesome work!

Yeah those aren't too too bad. But If I were you I'd go to Ace and Pick up Xylene and TSP and put it on the really bad ones. Even if I don't do your garage this will still help just remove the oil so you don't have to worry about it. Xylene is a hardcore Paint thiner so wear rubber gloves and try not to breath the fumes in too much. TSP is a hard surface cleaner and comes in a white little bucket. Wear gloves with this also when mixing because it can burn your skin. Mix the two in a plastic cup or whatever. It should be a paste and then rub it on the oil spots. you will notice it instantly takes off the surface oil and then just let it sit for a day or too so it can pull most out of the concrete. Then hose off. If you want before you hose off get some water on it and then scrub a little with some type of hard bristle brush. then you are golden

and thanks. I'm very happy how may garage is turning out. I can't wait until I get the custom cabinets in there also.

No Problem. The two things should maybe cost $20 at most for both. I'm actually thinking more like $15 if you get the small bucket of TSP.

Yeah I hate it too. Mine was a mess before I started my garage.

Cool so.. lemme see if I'm doing my math right lol. Garage is approx 355sqft (est slightly high). So.. doing granite style it's $887.5 - 100tw discount, which would be $787.5. Medium flake would be $710 - tw = $610. I'd presume you'd want a bit more for gas too to 'copa

Also, what are the color options for granite, color chips, and base coat options. Essentially what I'm really looking for is kind of a black asphault-ish look if possible... though I like the idea of the granite as I presume it's not as slick of a surface? Also, if it's possible to mix it up at the door seal to go to some sort of 'stealth' color that looks like concrete but goes the entire slab outside the door...
