popping sound coming thru speakers

not on my tacoma...but on the damn prelude i just got. car has a kenwood head unit, and i replaced all the speakers with some pioneers 6.5 speakers..4 way for front..2 way for rear(old ones were shot...3 of 4 were anyway).....and even after changing the speakers....im still getting a popping sound coming thru the speakers...but only when car is running.....nothing bad when you just have the stereo on.

im assuming its alternator noise??? whats the best way to fix this? whoever did the install last time did a decent job from what i can tell.......factory harness plugged into an aftermarket one for the stereo......so im not sure how much better the ground can be.

any ideas?? appreciate any input.

 

i checked them.......solid connectors....everything is snapped together, no wires were cut or anything.

 

take the harness apart some times the pins can break or come lose causing and popping noise, other than that i have no idea.

i thought about getting a noise suppressor...but they are only a band aid.

 

hmm thats weird man my ex had the same problem with her miata i took out the radio and check the harness and thats what it was.

but ya that can deff work but like you said its a band aid

Popping can sometimes be dif. cause than alt. noize(buzzing), it's known as clipping(distortion), when a deck either putting out a high output voltage with the gain turned too high on the amp, comes on real loud at low volume settings. Or when the deck is not supplying enough voltage to the amp, a decent deck should do fine and the problem is inferior RCA's, not letting enough signal thru. First thought but I would start there.

 

I would check all ground points and if need be add another, had the same problem running thru some RCA plugs, wrapped a wire around the ground shield and grounded to some good metal and it was gone.

 

give me an example if you dont mind.........not sure about rca's....there are 4 rca cables off the back of the head unit, but not plugged into anything.....no amp added or anything, just the head unit and speakers.

could a power antenna cause some popping thru the speakers?? im just checking all avenues for my own mind. what else can i ground?

 

Yea, with no amps I would say that it is a grounding prob. Check ur batt. ground. Go thru and check all grounds, possibly a bad HU, maybe try it in another vehicle to be sure.

 

thanks for the response. i have thought about the head unit being bad. im gonna check rear speakers tomorrow just to be sure, may also buy a inline noise filter just because and try that. i'll redo some grounds tho, cause i know some are rather shitty......just one thing on that damn car i havent done yet. thanks man.

Also, check the wire runs themselves...I know its happened to me before, but when installing and putting everything back together, one of the wires could have been punctured/sliced and is contacting with a ground source somewhere. Happened when I was installing audio to my old jeep, ran a screw close enough that it peeled some of the insulation off the wire...

also you said you had RCA, make sure they are shield, heat shrink or electrical tape over them to make sure they are bumping or touching something they shouldn't. You could also slice another ground into your wire harness and put it on some good metal under dash.
