Importance of Pre-Out RCA voltage

So from my research, one of the main improvements for the dnx8120, over the dnx7100, is the 5V pre outs.

I was wondering, How important is pre out voltage for the SQ of a system? For my particular application, This would be sent to a JL 500/1 amp, pushing 2 JL 10w3v2 d4's.

 

I am not sure how to answer that. Yes it is important to keep the noise floor to a minimum. I am old school from the days of 2v or less on the preouts and back then didn't have problems (for the most part). So, am I a believer in high volt outs? Yes and no. Old school tells me it isnt necessary and I have had fantastic luck. Then again your talking to a guy running 100% Symbalink in his competition car at 16volts Again hard for me to answer but 2 volt IMO is fine.

 

I also think that 2V preouts are fine. There is some benefit going to 4 or higher; higher voltage preouts offer the benifit on not needing as high of a gain setting, which in turn lowers noise levels induced into the signal. However, there are other more important issues to focus on first, namely installation.

If all other specs are equal and the money to jump to a higher preout voltage is not an issue, then I see no problem with that. But it isn't something that I'd be spending much on to get if there are other better places to spend the money.

 

just my preference and experience, i prefer highver voltage preouts, just sounds better to me.

 

don't get me wrong, I have a list. I would just rather do it right, the 1st time and save in the long run.

 

Also on the list. Right above the cd player with 5v pre outs, which might shortly be removed from that list.

 

I agree with what the guys are saying and would also like to mention that most of the decks we tested did not output their "claimed" rating before clipping anyway so that's another spec I wouldn't depend on too much.
