Faulty connection in your amp(such as connections, interior wiring, etc) or you are running your amp at an ohm level that it does not support.

I can get you an answer if you answer these questions:

    Voice coils on your subs?
    Ohm rating on your subs?

    Power output on your amp?
    Ohm outputs on your amp?

How did you wire your subs?

Alright let me see if I have this straight...you get bass from the new subs and everything works fine in your taco when the RCAs are hooked up to either an ipod, or the headunit in your old truck. When you hook the RCA's from your new HU up to the amp in your old truck it plays music and bass. When you connect the RCA's to your new HU the sub doesnt do anything. The problem has to be the settings on your HU or amp. Try to match the settings from the HU and amp in your old truck to the ones in your taco and see if that works. If I am wrong and you have never heard bass from the new sub/amp combo in your taco, then there is a problem with the wiring of the subs.

what settings could there be other than having them turned on and making sure im using the right preouts? theres some stuff using Hz that i know nothing about under xover settings, but would that keep any sound from coming out?

if the amp is getting consistent power it isnt the ground... hmm... how big is the amp? could be a general power issue. some subs want a certain amount of power and if you are only sending oh say 50w continuous then that would explain the lack of power and the sudden surge is just a bass clip? i guess i would have to hear the sound to know for sure. but i doubt it is your rca that owuld cause that

my rca is fine. and belive me, there is no shortage of power. i have a 1000w mono going to a pair of 8" shallows (rms 200w). but even if that were the case, i wouldnt have heard the base like i heard it from the ipod. either some settings arent as they should be, or my deck just isnt compatible

I honestly have no idea man it seems like everything should work. The last thing you could try is to make sure that the xover setting on the amp is not filtering out the low frequencies. Maybe the amp is only sending high freqs that the sub cant play. That would be a cause for the humming (because the sub is not meant to play high freqs). WIsh I would help out more but it sounds like your headunit is kinda wierd

    i've never heard of this..

Are you sure that out of the back of your head-unit you have your rcas connected to sub output?
Are you connected with low pass filter enabled?
If so then on your amp make sure its also set to low pass filter

also your amp has input and output, your connected to input with your RCA right?

I've seen a few threads talking about issues with the illumination wire after an install...found these after a quick search:

    http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/audio-video/124842-new-stereo-works-until-i-turn-lights.html

    http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/au...w-gauge-lights-go-out-when-headlights-go.html

    http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/audio-video/131296-after-stereo-install-no-interior-lights.html

Unfortunately, those threads seems to have different problems than you. I wonder if it's a setting in your radio that is the issue...
