Kenwood Double Din DPX-302

I pulled the trigger with Crutchfield yesterday on a Kenwood DPX-302, which is a double din unit. Originally, I was set to order a single din, Alpine CDA-9884, but found out the install kit was not compatible with the flip-down face and required trimming mods to make it work. I'm not heartbroken, as I think the Kenwood has a good amp and nice features, and should look great in the dash.

So, I'm just curious if anyone else has this unit and how it's working out. Anyone?

Oh, I also ordered two pairs of Pioneer TSA1672 6 1/2" speakers. Looking forward to enjoying much better sound from the stock, non-JBL stereo.

Hey, buddy, I'm askin' the questions here!

FYI, $377 for the receiver and speakers, after applying the Crutchfield discount and merchandise credit.

The receiver went in yesterday, fairly smoothly, but with one hitch:

The factory hazard/clock unit was attached to the factory housing in a different fashion from that shown in the TacomaWorld stereo upgrade "Sticky" photo. My truck's unit was not attached with the 4 screws as shown, but instead with 2 tiny screws and several tiny imbedded clips molded in. This required me to adapt a couple of small, angled, metal brackets to compression-secure the unit to the Metra radio housing trim panel (which had the 4-screw mounts). Weird.

I got the DPX-502 and love it. I still have not figured out every function on it, but its got some power in it. I got that model as I like simplicity, double din size, no touch screen to go out, and no folding faceplate to break. I looked at the 302 for a while then decided to go with the 502 to get the USB port for ipod or flash drive.

I'm happy to see your favorable response on the DPX, Tail Gunner! It is a real pleasure now to hop in the truck and listen to quality sound vs. what the stock setup offered. With the optional Kenwood Ipod adapter installed, and a birthday coming up soon, I look forward to being introduced to the world of Ipod!

Also, it was shocking to see what Toyota is using for speakers. Jeez, what a joke! And no wonder why they sounded so crappy.
