Aux In Volume Boost

Just connected a PHP Sound Shocker inline passive signal amplifier between my XM Sportscaster and the AUX In port on my OEM headunit. My sportscaster typically required the volume set at 50+ to hear comedy clearly at highway speeds. If it was music there essentially was no way hear it with the windows down from the XM unit. With the PHP unit I am getting adaquate volume at 25-30 now. If I turn it up to 50+ it is Too Loud. Now my XM Radio is more similar to normal FM radio volume levels. The PHP unit also seems to have filtered out some background static/hiss that was always slightly audible using the XM unit.

It is probably the best $30 I have spent recently. It does not require any setup, it uses no power, it is freaking cool. If you are frustrated with the volume of the AUX-IN port you need this device.

If you hear less hiss its because the amp is not turned up to as high of an output, not because its filtering anything.

 

Perhaps, but there is actually less noise when I turn the volume on the head unit up near max. I am not sure if the device filters, but it does have a high frequency cutoff above which it is not boosting signal which may help eliminate some hiss.

Either way, less noise is A OK with me

 

You are correct. In addition to that Sound Shocker provides transformer isolation which helps to block out electrical engine noise.

Mine took 2-3 days to arrive. It comes with one cable that is several feet long if I recall correctly.

 

Did you get the sound shocker or the sound shocker II?

I have the 05 radio with a cheap ipod adapter. the volume on that is super low. This will work the same, yea?

Mine just came in. Works like a charm!

 

Not really thrilled with mine.... It ceratinly increased the volume, but I'm getting some crackling noises with certain tracks from the ipod. Could be the quality of the file from the download....

I think I'm going to go with an after market system. This is my first Toyota, and I'm very surprised that they skimp on the audio system when every other aspect of the vehicle is top-notch.

I'm going to get the II so I won't need more cables. Anybody verify that it works just as well? Thanks for the link OP! This has been bugging me for 2 1/2 years now.

 

Been having the same damn problem, ready to throw mine out the window. Just ordered one of these as well, maybe it will do the trick.
