stereo question

I have a 09 doublecab taco that I want to upgrade the stereo eventually. The only concern that I have is that I don't really want to remove the factory head unit. Mainly because I don't want to loose oem functionality and look.

So what im asking is, would it be possible/worth it to upgrade the stereo while keeping the stock head unit?

You can use it but if you want to get the best possible performance from your new system I would suggest using an interface such as a JL Cleansweep instead of the typical line out converter. The drag with this is you will lose the volume function in your steering wheel controls

I was looking at the Cleansweep, and I think I would be best off just getting a new aftermarket headunit with the cost of the JL unit.

Any recommendations on a system? I don't mind spending some money on a system, as long as it sounds good. I am looking to get 1 10 or 12 inch subwoofer. I am not looking to blow off any doors, just want some decent sound.

The stock system is really getting on my nerves because of how bad it is. I'm gonna need to fix this soon. lol

you won't loose any functionality if you buy the right wire harness for the aftermarket deck, and the stock speakers should sound better with a aftermarket deck because you usually have more functions to alter the sound output (ex: stock deck eq adj = 3 way eq, aftermarket deck eq adj = 7-9 way) plus stock decks don't output very many watts per channel (usually around 15) and aftermarket decks out put much more (45-50)

I'm going with a Pioneer AVH-P4000DVD since it's easy to bypass the e brake cable to stop you from watching dvds while driving, and it supports dvix movies... You can get an adapter from http://www.pac-audio.com/ to make the steering wheel controls (if you have them) work the the aftermarket stereo.
