Aftermarket stereo in 06 Tacoma

I am a newcomer to TacomaWorld and have recently purchased a new to me 06 SR5 Double Cab. Done some mods on it already with OME front suspension, BDS rear shocks and add a leaf, new 285's and steel rims.

Mine came with the JBL 6 disc with sub ( or their impersonation of a sub ). While I am not a car audio nut I do enjoy quality and I have a Panasonic deck from a previous car and would like to hook this up primarily for the ipod and MP3 CD capabilities it has and also hoping for better sound before I tackle new speakers and sub if they are necessary after deck install.

My question is I have scanned the forums a little and found the info and sticky's under the cheap mods section but I may be reading stuff wrong or is there conflicting info ? All I need is dash kit and wiring harness to have my Pansonic HU work is what I am reading but I have also read about some converter by Access that enables the stock amp ( which is not in the stock HU ) to work with the Panasonic deck.

Can anyone confirm this stuff for me. I feel relatively confident on mechanical stuff but electronics in cars scare the hell out of me. Also any suggestions as to steer wheel control kits for the deck I have as I see most are using Pioneer or Alpine or Eclipse which has adapter already as I have read. My deck is the Panasonic CQ C3401U. Thanks in advance for any help.

My radio its self is an Alpine CDE-9874 which cost 140, 50 for dash unit 10 for ipod hook up cable that goes to the back of the radio and 20 bucks for installation, so in all it was a great deal and great sound coming out of the stock speakers here what it looks like

Thanks for the info. Was your stock deck the JBL 6 disc with sub ?

I am pretty sure I have read with the JBL system with 6 dsic in dash CD and sub that the amp is not part of the head unit and there may be an adapter needed to allow aftermarket decks to be hooked up. Just trying to find out if this is the case or not. In the sticky on the aftermarket stereo install as well as your explaination I am pretty sure there was no mention of what stock deck was in the vehicle. I believe there were 3 options : a stock CD, a stock JBL CD, then also a stock JBL 6 disc with sub. Thanks. I will see if anyone else replys.

Tightshirts, thanks for the info. I guess this is what I am in need of to upgrade to my Panasonic deck or is there another route ? I have the dash kit and wire harness already for my truck. Is one of these adapters absolutely necessary ? or is there another way ? Thanks in advance

usually you need the specific harness for that exact factory system, and factory systems can get pretty messy... i read the description again and it says "works with data driven JBL systems and JBL synthesis systems" which sounds specific and that expensive harness is most likely going to be necessary. It would be possible to re-wire all the speakers and dis guard the factory amp but that will be a lot of work, and if you sell the truck you would be difficult to put it back to stock.

My recommendation is buy the Scosche
TA07SR radio replacement interface. Once you get it and wire it to your aftermarket desk, it's very simple plug and play
