Dash Question

Hello New member here lookin for some help.

I had a question about removing the dash trim around the vents in my tacoma. The question is how do I do it. I searched and haven't been able to come up with an answer. I want to replace silver part around the vents because I scrathed it up pretty bad when installein my navi system. I hope is as easy as buying it and snapping it in place. But I cant seem to get that part off. Here is a pic of the part.

Thanks for any help

you're most likely going to have to remove the lower parts of the dash to reach whatever clips or screws is holding that part to the rest of the dash, but idk how that comes off that is just my guess... anyone have a hayes manual?

I thought Hayes went out ouf business/got bought up by Chilton... besides, I don't think Hayes makes for Toyota.

Loved my Hayes for my Honda!

I'm still surprised about it, too - I hate Chilton's, I'm not trying to repair a 05-09 DoubleCab AccessCab Regular cab 4cyl 6cyl Base SR5 TRD Sport Offroad Tacoma 2WD 4WD! Just ONE model! You buy the thing and rip out 2/3 of the pages that you'll never look at.

Dad has the mechanic's manual for his '87 Camry, I'll try taking a peek to see who published that one and do some hunting from there. I don't think it was Hayes.

Hit up your local stereo install place and ask the install guys input. When ever I was stumped with stereo stuff i drove to the install bay @ circuit city. The guy there knew his shit and didn't mind giving me some tips. They might know how to take it apart..

or,

just go ahead and buy the new one and look at it. If you see the whole picture you might see how it comes off. My guess is if there aren't any visible screws, there are probably some kind of clips on the backside holding it in place...?

third edit...

just went and looked at mine...pop off the black caps under the vents, look behind and you will see clips holding it in place. I'm not sure if you gotta get under the dash and pinch it to release, or if it will just pop out with a little pull from the front, but thats how its being held in...

I'd d/l a copy and save it for later use. Toyota doesn't like websites hosting these things.

PiercedTiger pointed out a while back neither Chiltons nor Haynes has a manual for the 05 and up. Seems Toyota won't let them print one.

When I went to take my dash apart to find the infamous 1st gen dash rattle I had to gently pry things until I could see how they were attached. No fun, but it works.

Do you know where to purchase the cluster center finish panel sub assembly? I did the same thing when installed my new deck.

I'm going to install it, but I'm putting in new a new sub and amp in my truck, so I'm going to wait a alittle bit til I get these and need to open up the dash again. probably be a month til I get it in. I'll let you know how it goes then though.
