Subs pop
I installed my system yesterday & I am concerned over something. I have two 10" Punch's with a 500 watt amp & Kenwood deck. I've had the same system in my past several vehicles, so I know its a good system. My concern is that when I turn the truck off the subwoofers make a popping sound & jump. I noticed that when you play with the RCA jacks it will do the same thing. Never had the problem before. Any help?

Check you wiring...
Make sure the AMP has a good ground. Their should not be a pop. You may have an issue with part your unit now... |

How do you have our amp remote wired? Is it direct to the deck?
Sometimes, "popping" when you first turn on the deck is caused by the sudden power surge to the amp remote lead. Im not sure if this is the problem your having, but there are options available to correct the issue. Stinger and other manufacturers make a device that wires inline between the amp and deck, which simply delays the remote power for a second. This will usually correct popping issues. -----------------------------------EDIT----------------------------- Sorry, just re-read, your problem is when you turn OFF the truck. I agree with others, and would recommend checking your amp grounds. Make sure they are as short as possible. Try to run the ground to actual frame of truck, and always wire brush or grind the area bare for best contact. Let us know if this solves your problems. Good Luck. |

I tried messing with the RCA jacks & I reversed them going into the amp. That solved the pop/thump when I turn the truck off, but it still does it while I'm driving or when I touch the RCA jacks. The ground is about 8" long & directly to the body. Like I said, same system & setup I've had in the past several vehicles & never had a problem. Thanks for the replies

Did you check the back of your head unit to make sure you have the RCA's plugged into the right output? My old deck had multiple outputs and i recall plugging them into the wrong one and my subs popped like that - didnt get any sound at all out of the subs, just the popping. dont know if you're getting any sound or not?

Think I fixed the problem. Pulled my dash apart again & checked RCA's. One was not plugged in all the way & was rubbing against a bracket. I have checked it out & its not doing it anymore, so hopefully its fixed.
