Here's where I put mine. Works great. Can plug my phone in or connect my ham radio to run through the stereo.

I did this mod using CAT 5E cable and kept the sleeve. I'd like to use 3M electrical tape to secure the cable and the only place tape the cable down is the top of the circuit board for the unit.

Can anyone tell me if the glue from the electrical tape will harm the circuitry in any way? I mean, are there acids in the glue that can cause the 'lead' to oxidize, or can it eat away at the film?

Sorry if this is a stupid question, I just don't want to end doing more harm than good. Thanks!!!

I wouldnt think it would harm anything??? I also used CAT 5 cable haha, all we had lying around in the shop small enough. I also heat shrunk the joints that were soldered. It was a fun little project, got a little sketched out during the radio tear apart but it went together a lot easier than i thought it would. I mounted the jack just left of the "seek track" button. Great mod and works awesome. beats the hell out of a new deck and the money involved with that.

Props to the man who figured this one out.

Can we get him the most awesome man in america medal???

Electrical tape is fine for wires/circuits, that's why it's electrical tape:)

    Sweet write up!

Just picked up the jacks tonight at the shack! OTD for under $4! I've got plenty of wires sitting around the toolbox. Gonna try and hit it up this weekend!

Thanks, I think it is in a desperate need of an update though. There are a few good suggestions that I want to add to the original post I just haven't had time to go through and consolidate everything. I have to admit I didn't think this mod would get that much popularity, let alone, success. It seams like only a handful of people have had any problem with it.

This is an awesome mod. Had an old stranded antenna wire laying around, maybe 22-24 gauge, not sure. Did the rough work last night, checked it and it was a go. Cleaned it up tonight. I superglued the jack to the back of the face plate and on the side where it fits against the CD player. Fits great, snug and clean. Then attached the nut for extra security. Works great, no static, volume is consistent with the CD volume. Total cost <$4!

Oh, concerning the 'silent CD'. I had an old motorcycle service manual on PDF on a disk. Since there was no audio I decided to try it, it worked!

I just did this mod a week or two ago and it's been working great so far. I did it so that I could listen to my scanner through the stock speakers.

Awesome write up and great pics, thanks!!

It took everything slow and was careful on my soldering, however when I put it all back together and tested it in the truck, only the left side cut out and play the AUX. The right side continued to play the CD that I had in.

Is this a problem deep in the unit where the wires were initially soldered on, or is it something else. Any suggestions. Please help me resolve this.

I did this exact same mod on my 2000 Trans Am and on a friends 2002 Grand Prix. It worked great on both and it costs hardly anything except some time. I used Cat5 cable to make the connections from jack to cd player. Keeps everything clean and tidy. Now that I know what to look for on the Tacomas HU, Ill be doing it again :)

    Thanks!

That sounds like the signal from the device you're plugging into your new "AUX" input isn't getting to the head unit (on the right side, anyway.)

    Here's what it could be:

    - bad solders where the wires join the head unit
    - bad wire, with only the left channel intact all the way through
    - bad jack (either in the device you're plugging in, or the jack you ran the new wires from the head unit to)
    - bad solders at the new jack you installed

I'd check the solders at the jack (if you even installed one.) Next I'd replace the jack. Then I'd shoot for replacing and re-soldering the wires, which would take care of the top two options.

    Good luck!

My bet is a bad solder on the right channel. Dude should know if his device only played in the Left Headphone.
Obviously check from the easiest to access, checking to see if you fixed it in between each progression.

Thanks for your post on the Base Single CD Player. I did mine a little different by using a 10ft headphone extension. I cut the male end off and soldered the striped wires to the location you showed. Then during re-assembly of the unit I fished the length of wire out of the hole above the antenna. then brought the female end out by the console.

Solder isn't permanent. Unsolder and move the wires if your not happy with it.

AUX jack in stock radio, overtakes FM.
Hi all. I was wanting to know if anyone had figured out how to do it through the radio instead of the CD. I know that fbconver has posted the below and spoken about it before:

I took mine out and looked over the chips and found the Sanyo LC75010 DSP chip. Data sheet here: http://www.alldatasheet.com/view.jsp?Searchword=LC75010 Would this be what I should look for? I may be willing to try it if someone can tell me what to look for and where to connect my wires. I'm not a novice at soldering, so I feel up to the task, just don't what to toast my radio either. Thanks. :)
