so my old setup was a solobaric l5 15" sub DUAL 2 OHM with a 600.1 jbl amp ... this was stolen and i think i had it wired series 4ohm cause i heard if you put a super low ohm load on a weaker amp than the speaker could take this wasnt good

new setup is a 15" CVX DUAL 4 OHM with a 1200.1 toxik amp .... and i wired this one 2 ohm pararell ... and it sucks i got no low end bass response ...... and it doesnt hit for shit

my plan is to wire it paralell, but this is suprising the hell out of me because i figured a lower ohm load would deliver better bass .. any input from you guys ... im very suprised since like i said the old sub my amp wasnt anywhere near the power it could handle and it hit hard

    Two things.

    1. Power ratings are frequently inflated. You have to compare RMS watts at the same distortion rating with the same Ohm loading. It might well be the JBL amp produced more power.

    2. The amount of bass produced is a direct result of the amount of air moved. Assuming each sub is working at it's limit there are two factors at play: 1) the surface area of the cone, and 2) the distance the cone moves (typically reported as xmax). To find the value take the cone surface area and multiply by the distance moved

I think you are hearing the difference between a JL amp and a Toxik amp.

thanks for the insight guys ... im gonna try and rewire it and see if that helps ... but am very suprised the jbl was doing better than this amp is cause toxik amps are supposedly a rare breed and highly sought after

I guess the solobaric l5 (square) also has slightly more surface area ... but am still suprised at the weak performance of the cvx so far seeing as they are supposed to be the round version of an l7

Toytec ultimate lift kit, light racing UCAs, ARB bumper and full skid plates underneath. Looking into redoing the suspension and maybe repainting the ol' Taco.
Also, check to make sure the amp is wired correctly. Test and make sure that you have both (+)'s connected to the same lead and both (-) connected. It is rare, but I have seen incorrectly marked poles on a sub before. Just use a AA battery and to test how the cone moves when connected.

theres another idea .... i rewired the sub again for a 2 ohm load, and think i almost have it right, also adjusted the xover for front / rear / sub on my deck and its decent now but still nowhere near as good as it was with the dvc 2ohm l5 i had before ... plan to live with it for now .... amps on craigs for a trade for an l5 then maybe i can get a better amp and decide what sub i want to keep ... the l5 fit in the back better the box for the cvx is huge

side note: nice sig im horrible at math and i figured it out

The box is the most important part of the system, idk if u still have that jbl amp but that is a good amp, vie never heard of that other brand. If you put that kicker in the right box it'll shake ur eyeballs!
