how to install overhead dvd monitor

Few things u need are a 10mm socket/wrench to remove the oh sh*t handles and a 15mm to remove seat belt as well, masking tape, electrical tape, wire strippers, drill, panel poppers...ima show u how to mount an overhead without having to tear up the ceiling headliner..I'm not gonna really go over all the wiring or the dismantle of our truck since if u have the guts 2 do this chances r u already know how 2 take apart these trucks lol....
First remove the sills front and rear either driver or pass side choose which side first I did pass since I have a few a/v cables I have 2 run 2 my hu
Second remove the dome light

Now get some masking tape and put it directly in the centerof the headliner going front to back

Now most overhead dvd monitors have plates that r used to install em on that plate put some masking tape down the middle use the masking tape that is on the headliner and the plate to help align the plate so you have a better chance of getting the overhead dead center

Now notice that in the headliner there is a metal beam that the dome light mounted 2 that is where we are goin to screw into 2 hold the plate up there u want to drive ur screw into the opening where the dome light is so u won't tear up ur headliner in my case they are silver and have square holes cut out you want to make sure your drill in the beams so that you are less likely to drill through the roof

Once the plate is held up there screw ur overhead up there loosely and make sure it is even aand remove it all and run ur wires for ur install

One more thing our dome light at least my 2011 is a negative trigger...we have 3 wires in the plug a white which is constant, a blue which is for the door trigger it test 12v when doors are closed and back 2 ground when a door is open and the 3rd wire is white/blk this s the ground wire. Use these wires fo dome light only please

Nice install. Did you have to trim your headliner to let the metal plate sit flush? From the picture it looks like you didn't but some other posts I found via the web while searching, they mentioned to trim the headliner.

I have been seriously looking at these things recently and am surprised the big manufacturers arent making them. Never heard of half of the ones making these things.
How is your audiovox holding up? Im not ready to pay Alpine pricing but dont want to buy a real cheapo either.

Ended up buy this: decent reviews and large screen for the price.

Will report back on how the quality is once i get my hands on it.

Tview isn't a bad company they been around for a while they usually offer decent quality especially for the price. The only thing I don't like is the way it folds down and swivel left and right I've seen quite a bit of those type monitors break at the swivel just be careful and it should last quite a bit.

Thumbs up

Finally got some pics of the installed unit. Ended up getting a 12" screen as the 14" was out of stock in Grey. I ended up cutting the headliner as suggested and didnt have any issues except only having two hands when it came time for final mounting and stuffing the wires into the headliner.
The wireless headphones are awesome and the unit plays DVDs, burned DVDs and video from USB and SD cards! Bonus!
Now if I can convince my wife to drive on long trips, I can watch a movie in peace in the back seat.

Nice but u didn't have to cut the headliner I didn't because I wanted to able to return to stock. But nice job man! And sorry I forgot to tell u a lil trick bout that two hands thing, uncan get a shower curtain rod and twist to height and use it to hold it up while u secure it. I got another tool for it but adjustable curtin rod works for a couple of installs the tool I got is easier and more sturdy cus I just press a couple of buttons and the rods extends and I continue with my installs

Thanks, no biggie on the headliner, I will never return to stock.
I started the install with the intent on not cutting but figured "why make it hard on myself?" It can totally be done (as SUN has proven) without cutting.

Hey Sun, is your player in with just those two screws? Does it bounce or anything? I know these things aren't to heavy but seems like it might not be too secure with my kids pulling down the screen, driving bumpy roads, etc.
I am installing an Avic this weekend and want to add a flip down monitor like this. Figured I would get one w/o DVD player and wire to hu. Might be able to find something fairly low profile.
What size is yours?

my bracket is held up with 3 screws then the DVD player is held up with 4. I have no problems with mine shaking around or anything and has held up fine so far. Mine is a 8" screen

Thanks for the info sun and zombie. Hey Zombie, did you cut into the headliner? If not where did you put the third screw? I really want to avoid cutting it if possible.

I did not cut the headliner. I put a piece of wood between the roof and headliner. My mounting bracket had tons of mounting options so I just stuck 3 nice screws in it for good measure.
