Im starting to look into double din for my tacoma (as well as my stang) going into the winter. I havent gotten a new head unit in years so im sort of outta the loop on audio as far as head units goes. Any one have suggestions on some of the best brands with specific models out there for the double dins. I do not want any cheap suggestions, I will need dins that can handle a pretty elaborate system when it comes to the mustang.
Just some specs on the vehicles:

    • Both have or will have systems (subs amps etc)
    • Both will have tvs (out side of the double din)
    • Tacoma has steering wheel controls
    • Does not necessarily need nav. honestly already have one of those
    • Does not necessarily need blue tooth, have that in truck already
    Suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Hey Kristin, you can check Cructhfield.com out, they have just about anything you need to know about headunits. I myself, will run nothing but Alpine. But I hear some nice things about kenwood too.

How elaborate are you talking on the audio? Safe to assume video out + audio out, with either external processors or amps/speaker crossovers handling the speakers?

If so, any double din unit on the market from any major player will be fine, get the UI that you like best.

I was a big alpine fan until I used Pioneers newer stuff at a store. The kenwood was lacking greatly in iPod interface, but worked well with sat nav - their strong point.

I would honestly suggest going into a local audio shop and playing with -
    Pioneer
    Alpine
    Kenwood

    You can also look at
    JVC
    Sony

I have a Pioneer and it has been awesome so far.

As far as a more elaborate system, last time I talked to techs at Crutchfield about doing an upgrade, they said the head unit would be fine even with all the upgrades in the other departments.

thanks guys so far for the input.. i have been hearing good things on the pioneer front so i might look more into that... the stang will have the more elaborate system with probally 4 subs + amps, components in doors and rear panels + amps and two or so extra tvs, so the unit has to be able to handle all that.. the truck just has a single amp and sub with probally 2 tvs for the headrests later
