Update. Did some cutting. I am still waiting on the god damn sound deadening to get here. The people I bought it from suck at shipping things... They shipped it out like 10 days after I bought it...

Anyhow, got a question. Italyn, did you just fiberglass over the MDF that would hold the screws from the top baffle. I mean the pieces that will go where the metal lip previously was. I am taking measurements and all and I am thinking about just running a screw through the metal and then into the wood, which will be fiber glassed over in the interior of the enclosure. Does that sound logical?

Also gonna embed a nut into the interior MDF, which means the top baffle will be very secure. Will also do a silicone gasket between the baffle and the enclosure so that it seals up completely.

Anyhow, see anything wrong with that plan? I am pretty much going with your install.

Got a question. This will be finished tommorrow or tuesday. Since this is a sealed enclosure, does it need to be completely airtight, or should I leave a type of hole for it to breathe?

I already have the baffle mounted and all, but need to know of any changes I need to make before I paint or carpet it.

Can't post pics atm. I will soon.

Shallow mount subs aren't so crappy anymore man. I've heard some in the past, but the one I have sounds nothing like crap anymore, AND its a rockford :p

Ok, about the question I posted. Seems it does have to be completely airtight. Should be ready soon then.

completley sealed or you'll hear the air leaks, rounded or 45'd corners if possible, and maybe consider some polyfill

    What?

Why would someone need, or care about, 45* or rounded corners?

He is not building a slot port for the box, its a sealed box. Corners dont matter...

Look, this "I'm too cool to read the actual thread content"....shit needs to stop.

Yes, it needs to be COMPLETELY sealed. It will sound like ass if not.
No, don't give a shit about the corners or whatever in the box.

DOOOO....post pics. I'm really stoked to see someone else do what I did. If it's nuts I might just have to try the TypeR's in mine since I'm already cut for 8's too :D

Lol. Been thinking about this for awhile.

Anyhow. As a heads up. There is something I did differently.

After looking at the space for a prolonged time, I decided to not cut the metal flange on top. What I did instead was slightly bend the metal in the back part. The way it is built is that the baffle will slide in from the back to beneath the flange and will use the holes in the flange to secure the baffle. The seal will still work with the fiberglass and sound deadening interior of the enclosure to create the seal, as the baffle still rests against it. Everything has been fit and all seems perfect.

Once it is all painted and most likely carpeted, I will post the pics.

Just wanted to give some details about what I did. Apart from that change, everything else is pretty much what is seen in the pictures Italyn posted.

It might take a while to put up the audio of how it came out, as I still need to take out all the carpet and do the sound deadening and amp wiring I need to do.

i am curious to see the finished product myself :) i just bent the sides in a little to get the angle the same plane so i could use one board, if that makes any sense. plus i was going to do 4 6" JL but i didnt want to be too loud so i just did 2 6W3V3 with a JL slash v2 250/1 amp.

Ok. Here are some teaser pics. I will post more pics when I make a build thread. Leather is on way and I still need to pain the rear doors black, so it is unfinished. Anyhow, here is what it is:

    Pioneer 3200BT
    6x9 Front Type S Alpine
    6.5 Rear Type S Alpine
Dual 8" Alpine Type R Subs
300W Alpine Amp powering speakers for 75 RMS each
1000W Alpine Amp powering subwoofers for 500 RMS each
All new wiring in 4 Gauge and 12 Gauge

I started by soundeadening the floor with FatMat (still need to do doors and roof, since I did not have time), then did a layer of foam (still need to do doors and roof, since I did not have time), then did new carpeting. Need to fix some imperfections in the Sub Area, but I will do that later. Subs are places 1" MDF and the space is sealed, though not with fiberglass, as I wanted to see how it sounded before I fiberglassed it, and indeed the seal worked perfectly, as it sounds awesome.

I need to check the Amp placement. The foam added a thickness far beyond what I calculated and the amps are a bit too tight below the seat.

Anyhow, this is just a teaser for the build. Thanks to all who helped me in this endeavor.

Edit: Forgot to say. These subs sound awesome! I do not think I could get tired of listening to them. In salsa music you can hear perfect "pum" while in hiphop you have the ridiculous resounding bass you might want. Did some dubstep and drum and bass and lol, they are ridiculously accurate when needed. Bass sounds deep. I still need to tweak the amp settings some, but the way these sound without much working of the settings in the amp, is sick, plain sick! Love it!!!

I see what you mean about putting the board under the lip. That's a neat idea. Does it seal well? It seems like it would be hard to get a proper seal that way but I'm really not sure I know how everything attaches down there.

In any event, it sounds good to you so that's the MOST important thing. I think we should form a small elite group of Under Seat Subs Taco Owners (USSTO's). What do you think?

Why, cause you cant get into the "behind the seats like a normal person" club? :p

And its not a trend yet, there are only like 5 of you guys.

It seals perfectly. You do need to make a type of pressure seal where the board will attach though. To get the board in you need to slightly bend the metal in order to get the most coverage possible. In any case, there is a perfect seal as far as I can see.

Also... :spy: ... yes to the club...

Some of us hipsters just like to be different. Even if it takes all being the same!
