Hey guys ive been doing my research and i know exactly what i want for my Double Din swap which is the Pioneer AVH-P4300.

I have a completely stock JBL system in my 06 now, and was wondering what all i needed to get the most out of the headunit. I want to keep my steering controls and i want GPS. What all do i need besides the unit? Harness? Which dash kit should i go with? Im looking for a more flush look and plan on painting it. How hard would it be to buy all this and install myself? I do want to also do the relay bypass... Mind you im a beginner with Car audio. :)

Sure, it can be done. I installed that head unit in my 08 not long ago. This sticky thread is a great place to start:

I prefer Sonic Electronix, but this same stuff can be bought at Crutchfield:

Since you have JBL system, you will need this harness:
    http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_9708_Scosche-TA07SR-TA07SRB.html

Get this to retain steering wheel controls (no programming involved):
    http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_22808_Axxess-ASWC.html

This is not necessary, but makes simple work of wiring the above steering wheel interface. It has been out of stock everywhere lately, but you can find it on eBay:
    http://cgi.ebay.com/METRA-70-8114-T...96010400&pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0#ht_2764wt_1120

You can buy an add-on GPS unit for the avhp4300dvd:
    http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_27463_Pioneer-AVIC-U220.html

There are two dash kits that will work. People seem to be divided on which is best. I think they are both merely adequate, but favor the Schosche kit because it seems to fit better:
    http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_5774_Scosche-TA2053B-TA2053-Silver.html

Metra also makes a kit that is textured like the stock dash piece:
    http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_13042_Metra-99-8214TG-Textured-Gray.html

Grab one of these if you plan to use an iPhone or iPod:
    http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_17860_Pioneer-CD-IU200V.html

Grab one of these relays for your bypass:
    http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_31162_Absolute-RLS125.html

And finally, look here for instructions on how to wire the bypass relay:

Unless you plan to solder, you will also need some crimp connectors and a crimper. Overall, it is pretty straightforward to install an aftermarket head unit.

When I installed this head unit, I spent quite a bit of time fussing with the placement. In the end, I'm very happy with the way it looks in the Tacoma. I think it looks better than the stock head unit.

One other thing worth mentioning -- if you happen to have an iPhone, you can use MotionX for GPS instead of the expensive GPS module.

You're welcome :) You'll enjoy it for sure. Much better than the stock head unit, and it sounds better too...even with the stock speakers.

Thanks! Finally decided I would add something rather than just lurking about :D
