for this i do have a reason for. I would only do this at a local place around me because i took my car into them to have them install a deck, amp, and speakers for me. after 2 months everything burned out. They said i did something to the system to make it short out and blow everything. Took it to another place and said hey can you check what could of happened. and they said that they took several short cuts and tapped into wires they shouldnt have and ruined my electrical harnasses. That is why i say that becuase i will never give them business every again and i would love to waste there time as much as i could.

More or less. I have to scoot the enclosure forward a bit, but it is functional. My main goal was to save space, and still be able to stack gear in the back. I would have preferred that the enclosure be completely flush and level, but then I would not have met the correct specs. I will be placing a small piece of carpet over the seat to level it out.

Ever had any issues with a lot of rattling or anything going on since they are downward facing subs? Never seen anyone do this before and just want to make sure it doesnt affect the sound or even rattle. dont want it to sound like shit outside when im driving, that always reminds me of some ricer ahahaha

That looks really clean man! do you have a DIY write-up you did on it?

The one for the 09' looks really clean, do you have a write-up or anything? im thinking I wanna do something along the lines of yours or the one made by babyboi2284

Nah I dont have a write up for it. The outside design was from an old TW and XRU vendor that made the "subX" box. I just looked at alot of pics of it at different angles then made mine. I'm about to make another one to fit two JL 10s

Yeah the box will be taller than it is and will have no seperating dividers inside...just an open box inside with braces.

When you make your new box, you should do a write up on it, definitely want to make something just like that! let me know when you get moving on that. Thanks again!

Jstrada, You have a write-up or anything from your boxes you make?

Will do. I doubt you will get a write up from someone who sells boxes as it will take away from their business.

Man with just a little more room! I have a giant speaker box with a 12" in it just resting on my rear seat now, it needs to go. I have always been a huge fan of 15"s, but there is definitely not enough airspace lol. There doesnt seem to be many options for 12"s, i dont want to downgrade to a 10" but i think i have to. I want the flush look with almost full function of the seats.

I myself have been searching everywhere for ideas. Really wish I could listen to one of these setups with a 10" and see how much of a difference its going to make. Either way, this thread definitely helps - thanks OP. Nice work Jstrada!

Yeah I know but figured it was worth a shot! Haha I'd say if we lived closer we could do a build day and figure out some bitchen sub boxes!

No problem man, we are all here to get answers and help others!

If you get a 15" sub in your AC post some footage, love to see that in action!

To those of you with the newer access cabs that have upgraded systems and the rear speakers in the ceiling...

Don't know why Toyota would remove them from the doors...

What did u do to upgrade the rear speakers? Move them to the doors?

I'm thinking of mocking up a sub box for the rear in the center and making it taller to fit smaller boxes for some speakers. Mounting them towards the doors

Anyone heard of people doing this? Would that type of mounting distort or retard sound?

Dude i wish. With the way my old competition was car set up, the same box + the diamond m6 15".. the box would take up the whole rear access cab lol. That car hit 146.8db's on a term lab mic and around 142 on the SPL. 1600w at 1ohm stable out of a harrison labs amp. I had to run two batteries and a 160amp circuit breaker. No light dimmage though :). Damn thing slammed man and had beautiful SQ at all ranges. I have to compensate for the rug rats now. I need both seats. I want to make my 12" work out somehow..i just cant see how.

Im thinking about one of these subthump downfiring boxes.

Three negatives i see with it: not ported, .96CF, 10in sub max :(.
Looks super clean though. Im going to talk to the audio store tomorrow to see if maybe they can help me.

I think the reason why the speakers are mounted in the ceiling is because of the JBL subwoofer option with our trucks. Optimal set ups always have the subwoofer to the rear of the vehicle to coordinate sound resonances.

If you plan on putting a sub in the access cab with rear speakers i see 2 options which have been done (search the forums)

    1. Cutting holes in the doors and mounting speakers that way.
    2. Putting speakers, whether they are 6x9's or any kind of rounds - in speaker boxes aswell and mounting them beside your subbox or somewhere around the back.

I dont like either because i dont think the sound evens out. The low bass and mid bass just dont seem to coincide. It creates an uneven resonance in my opinion. BUT - you may like it. I believe a great sound can be achieved by just replacing the stock speakers up front with a nice component system. Run them off an amplifier and run the ceiling speakers off your headunit. Then just have a nice subwoofer set up in the rear. Its much cheaper, and very efficent.

Having an access cab truck limits our choices.

If i were to mount speakers in the doors, i would do this with the subs lol. Say goodbye to your bed though.
