I know there are a million threads on this, but after a few hours of research, did not find what I was looking for.

I have the 09 AC with the goofy looking sub that toyota installed in it. I have removed it before and found that if i unplug it, it messes with the audio in the truck.

Wanted to know what my options are as far as replacing that stupid optimus prime looking sub for the 2 10" rockfords my GF bought me. Any opinion will be greatly appreciated! if you guys need more info/pics of what I have I am sure you'll let me know in the kindest of ways! haha

Thanks for your help in advance and hopefully someone has some excellent experience in replacing this piece o' shit.

understand that, was thinking about removing the storage box's under the seat and building custom sub boxes for that or building a box that I can mount onto where the original one is located. just would like to keep my back seat if possible.

anyway that you know of to install the 2 subs without loosing space in the back seat? I cannot think of anything that would work well while keeping both seats available for passengers...

There's somebody on here who makes the boxes where the storage boxes are actually.

Yea, I would search around. I have seen a guy who made a box and I do believe he said he was making others. This also could of been so many months ago and he might not exist here anymore. But you can Atleast find the thread and follow how he made it.

Yeah, going to have to search around for sure! Need to get rid of that sub in the back so I am able to control the volume on it and so it sounds half way decent.

Any idea if/how I can use the existing wires to hook up the new sub?

Depending on what gauge wiring is there now and what you would need to power the amp. Your best bet is go to a car audio place, explain your looking at doing this, this and this and see what they say. Then ask them if they could write that down do you know for future reference when you return. Then go online and buy the items 50% cheaper and save yourself some more money by doing it yourself.

Please do not give someone the advice of going to a small business, asking them for their advice and opinions with the intention of going somewhere else to make their purchases. That is simply dishonest. If you go in to a shop and they can't make you a reasonable deal you are not obligated to purchase from them, but if you are going to use their expertise instead of doing research on your own you should at least reward them with your business.

If you know you aren't going to use their services don't take up their time. Sure you can go look around their shop, but be respectful of the fact that they are trying to make a living, and their time is the most valuable thing they have, especially as small business owners.

This was from a few years ago. It's still going strong. Amp is under passenger seat and backseat riders sit Indian style. I hear down firing makes them sound good too. This also has a + versus putting them under the rear seat cause when the seats are flipped and cover the subs do the subs still work ok?(I'm not sure myself but I wouldnt think so) Since their downfiring I can throw stuff in back and not have to worry about it bouncing around on the subs either.

I only mounted a single 10" sub but you could make the box bigger. Mr Marv made the custom box for me.

Maybe you could make the box taller to hold 2 subs?

This is the box I made. It's modeled after the "subX" box. It has a "down firing" JL 10"w6v2 in it. And Im still able to flip up the seats for access to the compartments and full use of the rear seatbelts. I plan to make the same design just taller to house a second JL 10". And my amp is under my driver seat.

I had a local shop build a box for me that fit behind the seat. Mr. Marv had ideas, but by the time I paid for shipping, the cost would have been about the same. I chose this sub for it's minimal footprint and low volume requirements.

I had considered something more like jeremy_283 posted above, but I was unwilling to give up so much space. I can say that this sub paired with a XD400/4 puts out a rainbow of powerful bass. I have taken to opening my rear window just to lower the SPL in the cab.

Thats a nice set up. Are you able to flip the seats up to reach the storage while it's in there?

That Prototype is pretty sick. Can you fold down the seats without removing the box?

Okay, Im trying to find one for my 07. I might just get a square box and place it behind the drivers seat, since I don't let people sit back there anyways
