aftermarket stereo

hi guys,

i recently bought an aftermarket unit and i also bought the wiring harness as well which contained 2 sockets to plug into the factory wiring. when i took out the factory wiring harness i noticed in the radio there were 3 plugins instead of just 2. i did install my aftermarket radio with no problems, works great without using the third harness. do you guys know what that third wiring harness is and what was it used for?

CD Changer connectivity?

 

don't think so because it was connected to my factory radio and it wasn't a 6cd changer.

 

Believe it's for the steering wheel controls.

what kind of headunit did you get and where did you get it from? and does your truck have the JBL system?

 

I don't have the steering wheel control on my truck. It's a Kenwood KDC-BT848U unit. No it doesn't have the JBL system.

 

Same wiring harness used on all the Tacoma's. Mine didn't have them either but I'm getting ready to add them soon. Just got my new clockspring yesterday as the one I currently have does not have the steering wheel control jack.

 

I posted a picture of the wiring harness that was plugged in my factory unit that I couldn't use on the aftermarket one. I did use the wiring harness for the first 2 slots on the radio but the third one I didn't use and I'm wondering what it is used for (the one with the arrow)?

 

As mentioned above, it's for the steering wheel controls - standard harness, doesn't matter if you have it or not. The other plug (4th one), generally unused is for the CD-changer port, also used with BluLogic BlueTooth and/or the OEM iPod interface.
