If I recall, Sirius and XM are the same because Sirius bought XM.

They are the same but some radios I guess like my new 2012 Tacoma radio according to Sirius/XM are on different platform and will not accept the sirius platform

Have you tried installing the radio surround from a 2012? After looking over your pictures I think the radio mount needs to be altered vs the radio surround. The radio mounts to the metal dash frame, not the vent surround, correct? Starting to research how to retrofit the new 2012 dash pieces into a 2010. Better display and illumination, especially on the climate control.

i havent because my intentions was to never permanantly install this radio in the first place...i bought it to check what leds are behind it to do the led swap
im 100% sure that the surrounding radio frame from the 12 will fit on the pre12s...
also, the climate control doesnt just plug in...one plug does, the other, toyota make it into a smaller plug so some cutting and figuring out what wire goes where will have to be done

Looks like it's time to get a one day pass to the toyota wiring diagram site. If all they did was make the connector smaller vs changing it electrically, it'll be a matter of buying the smaller connector and moving the pins over. Did you notice any connector changes on the clock/airbag panel? Have you dug into the shifter panel at all, were those changed to white LED's as well?

the clock on the 09+ can be swapped (color wise) my guess its the same plug
the shifter my guess isnt led i havent gone thru one yet...
its a smaller plug but iirc, there are more wires on the new a/c panel than on the old

So you think with the 2012 radio/surround combination the gap at the top of the radio would disappear?

No not looking for entune. Just want the new radio surround and I'll install an aftermarket radio but I need to make sure that the fit kit for a 2012 would work in a 2010 with the 2012 radio surround :). Out of curiosity why wouldn't the entune work?

I looked at the repair manuals for 2010/2012. It looks like with a little work the 2012 version with LEDs could be installed in a 2010. The only issue is the temperature knob is backwards. If installed as is in a 2010 hot would be cold, and cold would be hot. I'm sure there is some way to change that internally. This issue is shown on the temperature chart for each year, the specified condition is opposite between the two years.

Both the 2012 and 2010 have two connectors.

    2010 has A15 and A16
    2012 has A15 and A33

Connector A15 is plug and play between the two years.

Connectors A16 and A33 DO NOT MATCH UP, they are different sizes... BUT all the signal wires are the same. See the chart below:

Hope this helps solve the question on whether they are compatible or not.

They'll be cheaper as wrecked Tacomas become available. I looked on eBay and the old silver w/orange illumination ones were around $130.

Really? $130...I got my spare a/c controls $30 on eBay ;)

But the wrecked 12s won't start happening for a while...(not that I want someone to crash their truck)

For those that say entune won't work on a pre-2012, read below. Come October I will be working on this, I'll do a write-up once completed.

From looking at the wiring diagrams, an ENTUNE unit should be able to swap over to a pre-2012 JBL Tacoma. See the PDF below. The multi-colored lines show which pins from the PRE 2012 connectors need to be moved, and where they need to go on the 2012 connector. Toyota combined two connectors from the old model on the 2012. The only issue comes into play if you want to subscribe to Entune, Toyota requires a VIN number that came from the factory with Entune installed. Without the subscription you will not get any of the internet functions: Bing, Traffic, Weather, Stocks, or Pandora. Nav, iPod, BlueTooth all still work (which is mainly what I'm interested in, everything else is already on my iPhone). I have heard some people using a 2012 VIN just to get the subscription but I'm not sure how legal that is and it probably creates issues down the road when the legitimate owner of that VIN tries to register for the service.

    EDIT: Updated PDF link 20150208.

Nice, thanks for the .pdf, very useful information. Please keep us updated when you work on this. I want to do something similar, except I don't have the JBL system; instead I will be using a Mark Levinson 12CH amplifier.

No problem. Electronics is my job so I love doing this kind of stuff. I updated the PDF with more info. Part numbers as well as non-JBL to JBL Entune). Hopefully the color coding is easy to understand. Basically dark grey cells are pins/connections that are plug and play, other colors show which pins need to be moved. White cells mean the pin/wire does not exist in the harness and will need to be added. I will continue to update the link as I move through the project.

I'm basically doing what billyjoe did here. Why? I like the OEM look and functionality, to show that it can be done, and because the JBL system is all the sound I need. I don't need or want an expensive wake-up-the-neighborhood sound system.
