Blown door speakers?

I think i blew one of my door speakers. or maybe it was already blown. sometimes it just doesnt sound right in the mid area. so i took it down to toyota. They ordered me some new speakers and are due for install on monday. Anyone have this happen?

Is there a possibility they might not put jba speakers back in? i have the sr5

That "magnet".... I can pick up the main speaker using the tweeter.
I can BARELY pick the tweeter up using the main speaker.
I can NOT pick up a main speaker using a main speaker.

I have stronger magnets holding post cards to the door of the fridge than what's on the back of that.

 

I was shocked when I pulled mine. Told my older brother, he decided to change his out (Nissan Nismo 370Z) just as shitty in a $42,000.00 car.

 

I was amazed that they sounded as good as they did.

Seriously... my bass and low-mid were TOO intense, and I was completely lacking in high end (coupling that with my hearing loss and music was a muddy mess).

I was seriously wondering if the RC-base even had tweeters.

Then I get it open, and the tweeters actually seem to be "not too bad"... certainly not compared to the mains!

 

They said it'll be covered under warranty as long as everything's stock?
I know its not the greatest system ever. But its pretty loud for stock. And not being a luxury car

 

I know this has been answered before. But I have a RF p3 12" in a pro box. Anyways should I mount it by lifting a seat up? And can someone tell me which ignition wire I can tap into and where at?

I've had a truck box in a truck before and its not really that loud... that's why I want to keep my pro box

 

Couple of things....the stock speakers are indeed shitty. The larger one isn't as bad as you think though. The magnet isn't ferrite; it's neodymium, which is quite good. They are compact and offer more magnetic flux than typical ferrite magnets. That means they can be smaller. It's still a bit small for a neo magnet though. The "tweeter" really isn't. It's a midrange unit forced to play full range.

 

There's no way that's a neo magnet.... unless it's a steel shell with a pea-sized neo buried in the middle of the voice coil.

Like I said... I can not pick up one speaker with the other, and can barely lift the weight of the tweeter.
It doesn't matter whether it's a neo or not, these speakers do NOT have more magnetic flux than a $20 eBay Boss.

 

I'm under the impression that it's shielded on the back so the majority of the flux stays within the voice coil gap. You really think a ferrite magnet of that size could power a 6x9 cone that well?

Ya... I've seen a ton of old PA, intercom, and even cheap guitar amp speakers that had magnet domes no larger than a quarter and they all work quite well for their intended applications.

 

I don't think we're comparing the same size drivers. I can't think of a single 6.5 or 8" PA driver that has a magnet the size of a quarter. That means the voice coil must be smaller than that and I can't imagine a PA coil taking any fair amount of power if it was that small.

PS: I thought I had one of these old stock speakers and I can't find it.

 

I'm talking about the speakers that went into ceilings for Muzak and store paging and systems like that.
Those things were tiny... the magnet fit inside the voice coil itself and there was only a small shell on the outside... not unlike the Toyota speakers.

Regardless... there is very little magnetic flux on these.
You can't "shield" or redirect that.
Best you can do is somewhat "contain" or concentrate it using ferrous materials, but they become magnetized and when in contact will act like a magnet.

 

You lost me here....you can shield them. It's done all the time. If you've ever heard the term "magnetically shielded" that's what it's talking about. The magnet of some speakers is shielded in order to keep the stray field from screwing up things like CRT monitors. We don't so much have that problem anymore (for obvious reasons) so it's not as prevalent now.
