We usually get some samples from metra and scosche as soon as they release a new kit so we can test fit as we do with all kits we carry.

The research guys will let me know as soon as we get the first 2012 kit in hand, and I will certainly let everyone on here know as well! :)

Thank you, Darren. That would be appreciated.

The "sometime within the next month" comment I received from Scosche doesn't totally conflict with the "mid-July release" that was also mentioned (it would only be a week or two later, so perhaps the other rep from Scosche was just trying to be conservative). I'll remain hopeful. Based on prior experience and ETAs that trust is probably ill-founded, but I'm an optimist. :)

Search Alpine they are about to come out with a vehicle specific kit with the largest screen available yet (8"). looks to be pricey but will be completely plug and play.

Good call. The "perfect fit" kit you're talking about is: Alpine KTX-TCM8

Crutchfield lists the kit for pre-order at $200: http://www.crutchfield.com/S-qOjrnmf0pGe/p_500KTXTCM8/Alpine-Perfect-FIT-for-Toyota-Tacoma.html

Of course, that's on top of the Alpine head-unit it's made for: Alpine INE-Z928HD

Crutchfield lists the head unit for $1,500: http://www.crutchfield.com/p_500INEZ928/Alpine-INE-Z928HD.html?tp=20212

That's kind of a lot to pay for what amounts to 1 extra inch of screen size, vs. a $30 Metra or Scosche kit (if and when they come out) and your choice of Kenwood, Pioneer or other in-dash navigation. That being said, the new Apline does look pretty slick, and appears to be full-featured (HD radio built-in, Pandora, Bluetooth, etc.).

Either way, the Alpine "perfect fit" kit isn't available yet, so we're really no better off than when this thread started, even if we did have the cash! :D

just a random inquiry, but at least they seem consistent with their claim thus far for a september release

    Greetings,

    Thank you for contacting Scosche.

Our current ETA on the '12 Tacoma kit it late September.

    Thank you,

I talked to Scosche today and they said the kits were coming out early October, but they would not give that as a firm date. Guess we wait some more.

Who said you cannot get Entune with a manual transmission? I saw at least 4 roll down the assembly line on on my shift today.

Actually, several of us... ones who have ordered them (or tried), only to be denied. I had a dealer work for about a month and a half with Toyota and regional reps to try to see if it was even possible to get Entune with a manual, and I can assure you, it was not.

Perhaps you're seeing 2013s with Entune (mine is a 2012). Otherwise, you're probably just seeing the regular system not turned on, which might be mistaken for an Entune system. But hey, if you can show me a photo of a manual truck with Entune installed, or better yet, a single person on this forum that has actually ordered and received one as such, I'll be a believer. :)

At this point, I'm going to call b.s. on Scosche. If you go back to my starting post, Scosche was original telling members of this forum November of 2011! Then they told me June, and then "two months" and then we're hearing September from two folks and now you get October.

I understand that production issues, etc., can push back dates. And no one wants an ill-fitting product. But I think the real issue here is that they've decided there's not enough 2012 owners to make a business case, so they've pushed it back until there are 2013s on the road. It wouldn't be entirely unreasonable to do that, but I just wish they would stop yanking our chains about it and just tell us what's up already.

I emailed Scosche and Metra and got a response from both. Here is Metra's response which confirms that they order it by demand:

The 99-8214TB/TG can be modified in the field to make it work. The new item will be a new mold that has to be textured and painted.

The average time to build, produce and ship a new mold is 3-4 months.

The order of the projects is determined by the amount of vehicles registered and consumer demand.

So the Camry and Corolla had to be done first and the Lexus will be last.

The difference in the Tacoma’s dash is enough that we must make a new piece from scratch.

Also, Scosche said Early October to me, while Metra said Late November

    6spd, great word:

    pre·pos·ter·ous/priˈpäst(ə)rəs/
    Adjective:
Contrary to reason or common sense; utterly absurd or ridiculous.
    Synonyms:
    absurd - nonsensical - ludicrous - ridiculous - senseless

I agree, this absurd. How fraking hard is it to produce a dash kit for the #1 selling small pickup in the Country?

Like I said on the fist page (twice) we need to start an e-mail onslaught to Scosche. Now its October???? I posted the e-mail response I got saying mid July. As long as we do nothing, they will continue to kick the can. WTF!

Love your Reagan quote, Molon... ;)

And yeah, it seems that unless we shout loud enough, nothing much will happen. Frankly, I'm a bit perplexed... this truck sells like hotcakes (hardly ever get discounts more than $500 on them, whereas Tundras and Corollas and such always have 0% financing all kinds of other incentives). So it's not like there's not a market.

Seems like if your nameplate doesn't end with letters that say "onda" and "ivic" you can't get any love from these guys.
