factory bluetooth vs aftermarket bluetooth

I am really thinking about changing my factory stereo for an aftermarket one. Looking at the pioneer Avh-p8400bh. One thing that I like about the JBL system that I have in my truck now is the controls on the steering wheel to control the bluetooth and the hands free calling. I know that I will lose the functionality of saying a name to call and the factory bluetooth. How does the audio quality on the aftermarket bluetooth compare to the factory? If it is going to get worse that is a deciding factor for me as I am in sales and I am on the phone a lot while in the car. Thanks for the feedback

 

The voice dialing on mine doesn't work worth a #$@&! So that isn't that big of a deal to me, but from my understanding is the aftermarket mics don't work very good. A friend of mine put one in his wife's Civic and said they never use it now because everyone complains about not being able to hear them. I suppose it is all about the mic placement though. Do you know if it will work with the factory mic/steering wheel controls? I've wondered this for down the road.

 

I would like for it to work with the factory mic but I am not sure if that is possible. If it is that would be even better

no I have not. That is something that I may do. I am mostly concerned with how the quality is for aftermarket headunits bluetooth compared to the built in bluetooth.

 

I had a Kenwood stereo with the Kenwood mic. in my 4runner. Quality was good, not great. I have been told the factory bluetooth in my 2012 Tacoma sounds better but not night and day different.

 

any other opinions on the bluetooth quality?

 

I have a Sony xnv-770bt that features integrated Bluetooth. My 2011 stock Bluetooth had much better audio on my end. No feedback from the call recipient's end yet.

 

I use my factory one on the highway a bit and no complaints, even with the noisy highway winds
I've had to speak up once or twice I guess so I can't say absolutely no complaints but never anything worth replacing.

No experience with after market bt to compare

 

i have used the stock bluetooth that came with my 2011 and I love it. It is a feature I use daily. That is why I want to make sure that if I do go to an aftermarket headunit I do not lose that quality in the bluetooth for my phone.

 

If I were to buy an 2012... I'd get all the electronic upgrades offered. My DNX9980HD kenwood has it all.. but it's the second aftermaket headunit I've had... A toyota system would have been covered under the warranty...

 

Bluetooth on my 2012 OEM deck was rock solid; Bluetooth on my INA-W900BT is meh...not impressed but it works ok...would I go back to stock? Never...my eye is on the new 8" Alpine DDIN deck

 

OP: Did you ever find out if the stock BT mic is compatible with an aftermarket BT head unit? I'm also interested in upgrading my 2009 JBL-equipped Tacoma, but I really want to retain the factory functionality of the steering wheel controls for BT and and the mic.
