Running 6x9's and a sub?

I recently purchased some Kenwood 6.5" 3 way speakers for the front doors and the Ordnance B-8PT self powered sub. I have a Kenwood KVT-516 deck.

I was wondering if there is any point also picking up some 6x9's to throw in the back just to finish things off?

Will it improve overall sound quality much?
Is there any point getting 6*9's for the back as I'm already getting a sub?

6x9 are a poor speaker design. A 6.5 is a better choice due to being round.

 

This is a very dismissive statement. Sound is made by vibrating the cone to produce soundwaves through the air it displaces. A 6x9 is a perfectly good design because it has a large surface area to move air and produce those waves. Just because its not perfectly round doesn't mean they will not sound good. In fact I have hear plenty of great sounding 6x9's in my day.

A better response to 96Taco... Do you feel your lacking in the mid-range area of your system? The 3-way speakers up front will take care of most of the high through mid range sounds. The B-8PT will obviously take care of the low, however because its an 8 in woofer, it can handle some of the lower-mid-range as well, as opposed to a 10 or 12.

Im thinking you will have yourself a nice rounded system by adding 6x9's, and not to mention loud, but maybe try it without them at first and see what you think. If you have a 4 channel amp then you can always add those 6x9's later. If you do, you might play with the low pass filter to make sure the sub stays at the lowest range, so the 6x9's shine.

 

Thanks for the reply guys. Yeah i thought it would be more rounded to have the typical 2 in the front 2 in the back plus sub. But we will see how it sounds once installed. Only an extended cab so small interior.
Hopefully it arrives this week so i can install over the may long weekend.
