Haha ok I see. Well the Hertz HSK 165 component set comes with 2 mid basses and two tweeters which you would mount in the stock locations, assuming they'd fit depth wise. I do not know the depth of the doors in the newer tacomas. If you wanted to replace your back speakers you'd need to buy another pair of speakers which would not have to be components, they should be coaxials (which is basically where the tweeter is mounted in the center of the midwoofer). If you wanted to amp everything then you would need 5 channels of amplification. Since you already have a sub woofer amp, then you would only need a 4 channel amp, in which case the JL XD600/4 would be perfect for you. Unless you wanted to switch to an all in one 5 channel amp, which the JL HD 900/5 would be great for that. Its up to you. If you stick with your sub amp and buy the XD 600/4 then you would need to purchase a distribution block since you would be running more than 1 amplifier.

Also, i dont think 6.5 inch speakers are the standard sizes in the newer tacomas so you would have to purchase speaker adapters as well. standard size is 6x8 same as in the gen 1 tacomas i think.

Also, I would recommend using some type of sound deadening like dynamat or something similar for the doors.

Ppi p900.4 + jbl ms 65c or hat imagines... go jbl id u want high end clarity go imagines if you want more mid bass and low end extention. Both come in under 200 bucks and the money you save can be put into quality soundeadening system from sounddeadener showdown (cdl tiles closed cell foam and mass loaded vinyl). The ppi amp will allow you to pretty much run active with what ever component set you get, so youi can makei the most out ofto your setup. Buy some mdf and a jig saw and a d/a sander to make your self some baffles.

Also diyma.com has alot of great info that gets straight to the point. I hope this helps ive been reading for years and beleive this to be a great setup for your front stage

If thats what crutchfield says, I'd trust em. Maybe someone else on here can chime in like I said i know you would need adapters, but i do not know whats the stock size on the newer tacomas

IMHO the most money you spend should be on your front stage as that is going to make the biggest difference as to how your system sounds. not saying those are bad speakers that extremepaint mentioned, but just a word of advice. Also soundeadenershowdown is a great site, that is where I bought all of my sound deadening gear (full CLD/CCF/MLV treatment) just thought the OP would know what i meant better if I said dynamat.

The jbl and the hat's are not high end best of the best speakers. I applogize for not mentioning this. I beleive them to be some of the best value sets you can find today. After reading the reviews they are compairable to hertz focal and other 500-700fish dollar range setups. Unfortuantly i have not had enough listen time in same enviroment to say for sure. But from the reviews they are getting people are not at alll disapointed.
And i always beleive that the speakers are only as good as the install. I know my money tree isnt as big as other peoples so i take value as a priority over having the best of the best. Illl save that for a home tgeater install or maybe a mcintosh setup in my 66 mustang gt... a man can dream! Lol

Haha a Mcintosh setup in a 66 GT.. Would be awesome! Good advice btw I agree with install being done right to get the most out of the speaker.

Lol one day! Also not sure if op has time alignment on his headunit... but its one of those things i always noti e and really enjoy on a daily basis. Just wish i had money for soundeadening ive been peicing my set up and budgeting everything waiting for a roll of mlv to show up locally so i dont have to pay shipping. The vibration and rattle from the door card kill the imaging and experiance. Even if i had some revelators and seas neo in perfect phase and alignment they would still sound like rattling garbage lol!

I have the three way version of those in my car and absolutely love them. The 165vr3 is a 6,4 and tweeter they sound amazing and actually the price isn't bad for how they sound. Full retail is 899.95.
