So I just picked up a Pioneer double din, model avh-p3400bh from best buy, wiring harness too. When I asked him about the dash kit he said it wasn't required. I'm replacing the stock JBL unit. I was pretty sure I would need a dash kit...am I wrong and he's right? Either way they're installing it tomorrow..never been good with electrical stuff.

The guy at best buy is a douche and you should walk away and go to a real stereo shop..

and like everyone else said, Yes you need a dash it.. Unless you like a big gaping hole around your deck.

both that sounded kinda dirty huh?

yeah, I figured that out. When I went in the next day there was a different person working who has a lot of experience with tacomas and the jbl systems. He asked where my dash kit was and I explained to him what the other guy said and under his breath he mumbled "dumbass" haha. I told the guy I was going to need one but he chose to believe the computer instead. Anyways thanks for the offers, i got a metra kit. On a positive note though, I love my new unit, lol

The fit isn't too bad, only thing right now is that in the upper left corner one of the plastic pieces that slide over the clip to lock it in broke when I took the dash apart to paint it but I've got some replacements clips on the way

Mine is the metra and since I haven't ever used a scosche I can't compare but the metra isn't too bad. Only thing that sucks is that the inside frame (the piece that's painted green) at the bottom, it doesn't meet up flush with the console piece. Can't really notice unless you look at it at a downward angle but it's not bad.

Thanks. Apparently the green interior makes other members want to puke or give off the impression that I'm still in high school even though I graduated 11 years ago, lol. Whatever, I like it.

Yeah, it was kind of like a trial by error type thing and I liked it at first but it got old quick, it's back to black now though.

That was precisely what I was thinking. LMFAO. Don't get me wrong, I like accents to make a vehicle unique, but I like 'subtle' accents. lol
