I just got some new (gently used) Boston Acoustics SR60's with crossovers and tweeters. (thanks Dylan199 !) :)

I've searched the forums and links and can't decide on one amp amoungst the many.

I'm looking for a 3 or 4 channel amp to power these speakers plus a small (8") subwoofer.

Obviously I'm not trying to "rock the world", but i do listen to hard music at moderately high volume (at times) as well as classical or electronica.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. thnx!

Also, where is Mrmarv, so highly touted here?

Ive got sr-60s and a small sub. Rockford fosgate 8" shallow mount. This is the amp i bought http://www.crutchfield.com/p_236JH805/MTX-JackHammer-JH805.html?tp=35808. Its one of the cheaper 5 channel amps but it has plenty of power for the sr60s and a small sub, i plan an adding rear speakers sometime also. I would recomed this amp if your not going for high performance and if you dont CRANK it, i had the gain to high and had alot of static when te volume was all the way down, and popping when the volume was all all the way up. When i got my gain levels set better it sounds great. It is still very loud and no popping very little static. I would recomend wiring the sub to 4 ohm if you go with this amp, i think 500 watts is a little much for most 8 inch subs.

Pm me if youve got any questions on the sr-60s. It was a little tricky mounting and wiring everything.

If you can swing the price, a Kenwood SR5S, an Alpine PDX5 or the JL Audio 5-channel ($$$$) are well rated amps. They are 5 channel though, but they simplify the wiring as opposed to 2 amps.

I've run a 4 channel as a 2+sub before and while it works, the sub power levels aren't great. I went from a 4 channel RF (T600-4 I think) to an SR5S and liked it much better even though I am not using 2 of the channels (2 x main door components, 1 x sub, 2 unused + 2 rear door channels off of HU power)

Crammed it under my drivers seat, just barley fits and sticks out behind the seat a little. Im a second gen tho, i think OP has a 2012 so he should be able to make it work

I ran a HD600/4 to two sets of front and rear components and to a 12W3V3 and liked it a lot. So a 4 channel will work too.

Ya 4 channel could work since he has an access cab, he could bridge two channels for the sub.

Thanks guys for the helpful suggestions.

I'd like to keep this to a reasonable budget, not a low-end system, but more of a low to mid-priced system.
With the subwoofer I just want to add back the low frequency spectrum that the mid-range speakers can't handle efficiently.
I liked the self powered, under seat sub, but the price caused me to swallow hard!

I'm researching more options based on your sugestions, and I will be back with more questions.

    Gracias.:)

3 channel amp is taking a 4 channel amp and bridging 2 of the channels to make it one channel. You would use this for a subwoofer.

Lots of things to consider when picking a sub and an amp. What are you thinking for a enclosure? I cant tell you much about any of those subwoofers besides they are cheap, doesnt mean they wont sound good tho i guess. I would send an email to a tech guy at crutfields.com and see what they would recomend in your price range

    Thanks Evan.
I planning on using the smallest allowable closed box. Might even make my own if I can't find one that fits between the rear seats in my 2012 access cab. I'm not looking to compete in sound pressure competitions, just a little bass boost.

Thanks for the offer on tips for speaker installation. All tips are welcome. I've never even taken the panel off the door, so this is a new learning experience for me.

I have woodworking skills/tools, so I was contemplating making the mounting ring that I presume I will need based on some prior examples here... something like the ********* mount, only in MDF.
