i want to keep my factory headunit... and i want to replace my factory speakers in the doors. Would be nice if they were direct bolt in / plug in replacements. also i dont want to need an amp or sub.

this is for a 2012 double cab without entune.

    any advice is greatly appreciated!

edit.. after further research it appears that i'll need some ********* mounts?

Here is a way to look at it.

If you are pushing crap out put to your speakers, your speakers will play crap. Your head unit is the most important key to a good sound system.

Start with the new CD player, then get speakers.

You only need ********* mounts if you are using a 6 1/2 inch speaker.. if you use a 6x9 you don't need mounts.

^^^He is right. You will be disappointed until you change that head unit.

just the info i was looking for. Thank you. Do you think it would sound better 'at all' with different speakers? I dont need it to be a Bose system but would like it to be a little more high, low, midrange. the factory speakers just sound terrible. i dont want to lose my facotry head unit because i like the bluetooth, xm radio, title read out, factory look, and steering wheel controls.

Hey KJ, I am in the same boat as you. I can only afford to replace speakers at the moment. The speakers will be better than factory. You wont get your true monies worth out of them until the H/U is replaced though.

I am not a fan of losing all the extra features like xm, steering controls, BT, and the USB port thingy. Nor can I afford to buy all the extra BS to make them work with an aftermarket unit. When I can afford it, though.....I am getting them all hooked up wiht a nice ///Alpine or Pioneer unit.

i got Alpine 6.5 for the rear doors, 6.5 components for the front doors and an Infinity Reference 8 in sub for a Mr. Marv box that is being built. Its a low end budget build but i never would be able to compete with SPL or SQ stuff. Just looking to build an ordinary guy system.

I did mine instages first the headunit (w time alignment) then front speaker w/ amp. For the effect id say i got the same levels of enjoyment. The headunit made it clear crisp and balanced. The component set and amp added punch range and dynamics the headunit couldnt acheive on its own. If i did it again id get pioneers new sq headunit and a set of hertz focal or other high end brand amp and speaker.

In the end i really enjoy the system and havnt thought twice about the money
