Powered sub

Ok, i know this may be a stupid question but here goes: I am going to install a powered sub(sound ordnance B-8PT) which has freq. and level controls built in. My HU(AVH-P2400BT) will control high and low pass freq plus level control of the sub(which is what i want to use). My question is this: Do i set the sub amp at zero and control with HU or set the sub amp settings at max and dial back with HU controls. I am not even sure this question makes sense but hopefully someone can figure out what I mean and supply an answer. No flames please, I'm a car audio noob.

Stan
I guess my question is really this: Will my HU, connected to the sub amp via rca connections, over-ride the settings on the sub amp if the sub amp controls are set at zero? I know you don't want to use both HU and amp to control cut off freq. and I want to use HU. Guess I can just get it hooked up and try.
edit:

Not a stupid question at all, just came out kinda awkward.

Here is a good guide on how to tune subs

How to tune subs

Also would help if you post the make/model of your powered sub.

Thanks for the reply. I edited my original post with sub model. The article you linked says: " Note: Do not use the low-pass filters, crossovers, or bass boosts on the receiver and the amplifier at the same time — use one or the other, but not both."
So i assume if i want to tune with the HU i just set the sub amp at zero.

Thanks,

Stan

Correct. On your HU you will have an option for bass boost and a sound retriever setting if using mp3's. I don't suggest using these as they just tend to create distortion.

I'll look into that amp a bit tomorrow and get back to you.

Looked at that amp more today. I would follow the link I sent you and use the amp's gains vs. the Decks. If you don't like the output, try reversing that and use the deck's gains instead of the amp. I've always preferred to use the amp, and tweak it with the deck.

With mysetup my amp gain is on 2% and my deck gain is at +2db.. no other filters/bass boosters or anything else like as they tend to create distortion.
