Sub Woofer Repair

I have 2 Orion HCCA 15 first generation. 1 is dead and needs to be re-coned.

I've never attempted speaker repair and not sure if I want to make my first attempt with this sub.

I called Orion, the cost to fix this was outrageous and almost the cost of a new Orion HCCA 15.

Locally the cost is ok but the guy will not guarantee his work because "He's never worked on any subs that ran this type of power". Which makes me really not want me to take it to him now.

Should I find a shop online and pay to ship (sub weighs around 70lbs)?

or Should I buy a re-cone kit and attempt this myself?

 

Depending how much a recone kit is, it looks easy on YouTube videos. Just make sure the coil is spaced evenly using paper

last time i saw a re-cone kit for those i believe it was around $80-$100 could be off but i believe thats where i saw it last about 2 years ago..

 

I found the recone kit for 150 $. Going ti give this a shot myself. I've dobe one in the past but it was a very weak sub vs this.
