    Hi all,

I want to replace the stock radio in my 2006. I want something whose colors will match the dash at night, so I guess orange? I dont need a ton of fancy features, but I need at least aux input (the whole reason for doing this), single CD, FM radio. I plan to order from Crutchfield to get the install bits, and I want to spend $100 or less.

If I could spend $50 or less on a "box" to add a quality aux port to the stock radio, I would probably go that route and keep the stock look.

    Suggestions?

I guess there are too many options to recommend, Crutchfield is full of them!

I think the expense limit of 100 may be a problem. Many different double din decks. On my Pioneer, I have a choice of about 5 colors to choose from (orange being one of them).

Very nice. I am considering upping my budget a bit. I think the double din would look sweet in the Taco. I dont want anything with a flip face or removeable face. I do need aux and maybe ipod/iphone, and bluetooth would be nice.

I dont want anything to glity with a ton of lights and shiny buttons or crazy design :)

what you are describing is the factory radio. Why are you replacing? More power?

If you are replacing to get axillary, there is a mod you can do to get an auxiliary input with the stock head unit. I did it in my 05.

How about <$10. If you are only looking to add the Aux. I can help you out if you want to do it, I live in Cary.

I might also consider an after market plug in thingy like the ones from USA or Grom Audio?

Tempting, but I worry about frying something, I am a newbie solderer...is it a touchy spot to get to and solder? I have soldered wire to wire, but not wire to board.

It's not bad to do. If you're looking at maybe going aftermarket anyways who cares if you fry it. Like I said I can give you a hand I'm close.

Thanks for the offer! I am about to pull the trigger on an aftermarket, I think I will enjoy all the new features. If I bail I will get in touch for some soldering help :)

OP I am also in the market for a head unit. I have been debating on the inexpensive single DIN or spending a little more for a touchscreen. There is no doubt about it the touchscreens look awesome in the Tacoma. From what I have researched the above mentioned unit is a great no nonsense unit but I am being swayed to a touchscreen after looking through some the other builds on this sight. I found the Pioneer AVH-P2400BT which is a last year's model discounted on Crutchfield. In my opinion it is a clean unit and I like it because it comes with the extras like bluetooth. The downside is it has a smaller screen and I don't prefer the aux and usb ports on the front but you cant beat the price. Look for the $25 dollar discount code online and it comes to $275 shipped.

The other alternative is to look on Amazon but of course it doesn't come with the install kit. Good Luck and let us know what you get.
